Emotional attachments can make it difficult to understand when it’s time to end a relationship or marriage, but when we are honest with ourselves, we can recognize when we’re experiencing more than one of these clear signs that it’s time to move on:

1. You Are Not Equally Committed to Moving Forward

When one person wants to work out issues together, but the other person has no interest in working on the relationship, you’ve reached a dead end of communication that makes solving even the smallest insignificant problems much harder than they need to be.

2. Spending Time Together Feels Awkward and Forced

If someone feels forced to spend time with their partner, that is a sure sign that they are not interested in their relationship any longer. Continuing to spend time together in this situation will only create more emotional burden and resentment for both people.

3. You’ve Started Searching For A Different Partner

Searching for a different partner while you’re still in a relationship means you’ve already decided that you’d rather start a different relationship than continue to work on the relationship you’re currently in. If you’re already seriously one foot out the door, it’s better to make a clean break than to continue delaying the inevitable.

4. Abuse of Any Kind

No relationship is worth enduring abuse of any kind. Choosing to stay in an abusive relationship is self-neglect. No relationship with another person is worth more than your own personal mental health and emotional and physical wellbeing. If you are experiencing abuse, seek help immediately.

5. You’ve Read 15 Articles on When It’s Time to Give Up

Check yourself. If you’re already looking for advice on when to leave, than you’re already ready to leave and reading outside opinions and tips are just additional ways to convince yourself of something you already intuitively have decided. It’s probably time to start reading articles about how to leave your relationship.

If you identify with any of the above and need additional support and guidance on how to leave, please don’t hesitate to email us to set up a time to talk.
