Tips for Disney World in August

Below are some things you can expect atDisney World in August as well as some tipsto beat the crowds and the heat!

Check out my Disney World Planning Tips Here!

All About Disney World in August 2023 (4)

#1 Dress Light and Comfortable

August weather in central Florida will be hot and humid, so make sure to wear breathable clothing, hats, and sunscreen.

Your visit to Disney World probably won’t require long pants, but it’s a good idea to bring asweatshirt or jacketin case of rainy weather. Rain can cause temperatures to drop, and I learned this lesson the hard way at Epcot.

On typical hot August days, it’s recommended to wear comfortable shoes, shorts, and a cuteshort-sleeved Disney t-shirtor tank top.

#2 Stay Hydrated

In the Florida heat, it’s important to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay cool and refreshed. I recommend bringing along a high-quality refillable water bottle and ordering bottled water through a grocery delivery service.

I also like to bring some water flavor packets because the water at Disney World sometimes has a weird taste.

#3 Plan Ahead

August tends to be a busy month, so make sure to plan your itinerary in advance and make park reservations as early as possible. You’ll also want to make dining reservations as soon as you can, 60 days before your vacation.

I like to have Get Away Today’s Concierge team make all of my reservations for me, eliminating so much stress. And their service is FREE! Get a Disney World vacation quote here.

#4 Take Advantage of Genie+ and Mobile Ordering

These services can help you save time and avoid long lines for rides and food. With Genie+, you can book reservations for the most popular rides and attractions directly from your mobile device.

Mobile ordering lets you pre-order food at select restaurants, allowing you to skip the line and pick up your order when it’s ready.

#5 Arrive Early

Beat the crowds by arriving at the park early in the morning when it’s less busy. If you are staying onsite at a Disney World Resort hotel, you can get into the parks 30 minutes before it opens to the general public!

All About Disney World in August 2023 (5)

#6 Take Breaks and Pace Yourself

Disney World can be overwhelming, so take breaks and pace yourself to avoid burnout and exhaustion. If you arrive early for rope drop, head back to your hotel in the afternoon to take a nap or a swim.

#7 Check for Specials and Promotions

August is a great time to check for special events and promotions that might be happening at the park. There seems to always be some time of sale on tickets or packages for any time of year. I recommend using travel agents like Get Away Today who can monitor these sales to ensure you get the best prices.

#8 Bring Snacks and Refillable Water Bottles

Bring snacks and a refillable water bottle to save money and keep hunger at bay. I use Walmart Grocery Delivery when I arrive at my hotel to stock up on healthy snacks like fresh fruit and veggies. Read all about grocery to Disney World hotels here.

#9 Wear comfortable shoes

You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes to avoid blisters and foot pain. You may even want to bring a second pair and switch them out every day.

#10 Have Fun and Enjoy the Magic!

Don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the magical experience that is Walt Disney World! You pay a lot of money for a Disney World Vacation, so relax and go with the flow.

Is Disney World Crowded in August?

If you’re looking for a less crowded Disney World experience, late August may be the perfect time to plan your visit. With many kids returning to school, the crowds tend to be more manageable than during peak summer months. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the first few weeks of August can still be quite busy with summer vacationers and local families.

If you have some flexibility with your schedule, consider planning your trip for the last week of August. During this time, the crowds tend to die down significantly as schools start back up and families head home. Additionally, the temperatures are still warm, so you can enjoy all of the rides and attractions without feeling too hot or uncomfortable.

That being said, no matter when you decide to visit, it’s always best to plan and take advantage of all of the tips and tricks available to make your trip as enjoyable as possible.

How to Beat the Disney World Crowds

These tips will help you beat the crowds on busy days at Disney World in August.

Purchase Disney Genie+

Disney Parks know that their parks continue to get busier and busier and they’ve come up with ways to make the experience more enjoyable for park guests.

One such way is through the Disney Genie service, which is available to all visitors and can be accessed through the My Disney Experience app. With Disney Genie, you can create a personalized itinerary that’s tailored to your preferences, helping you make the most of your time at the park.

For guests who want to skip the lines, Disney has introduced a paid service called Disney Genie+. This service functions similarly to the old Fastpass+ system and allows you to make reservations for certain attractions.

Additionally, there are individual Lightning Lane selections available for purchase on some of the most popular rides, such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Tron, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Flight of Passage.

Stay in a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel

To beat the Disney World crowds, consider staying in one of Disney’s onsite resorts. Guests who stay at a Disney World Resort hotel get special perks that can help them avoid long lines and crowded areas.

One way to do this is by taking advantage of Early Entry, which allow you to explore the theme parks 30 minutes before they open to the public.

If you stay at a Deluxe Resort, you can take advantage of Extra Evening Hours at Epcot (Mondays) and Magic Kingdom (Wednesdays). These parks will stay open two hours longer than posted closing time for these select hotel guests.

Advance Dining Reservations

At Disney World, table service restaurants can be extremely popular, and it’s often difficult to get a table without a reservation. Fortunately, Disney offers Advance Dining Reservations (ADRs) to all visitors, regardless of whether they’re staying on-site or not.

These ADRs can be made up to 60 days in advance of your travel dates, giving you plenty of time to secure a reservation at your favorite restaurant.

Rider Switch

Another way to beat the crowds is to useRider Switch, if you are traveling with small children.

One adult can sit out with that child while the other adult goes on the ride. When the adult who rode the ride is done, the other adult can then ride with up to two guests without waiting in the stand by line!
