Bernardo Mendoza is the older brother of Ari Mendoza and was arrested along with imprisoned for murder charges. Although his brother has no idea why and longs to understand his distant sibling. He serves as the unseen overarching antagonist of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Later he is set to appear in the sequel.
Biography[]
Bernardo grew up with two older sisters that were one year older than him and saw his father go to war. Not to mention his mother was only 19 years old. Therefore extended family raised him. Although Bernardo grew up with more violent tendencies than anyone ever thought he had.
He was revealed to be a wrathful individual who although finding enjoyment in his little brother of who he cherished, within he harbored a massive amount of rage. At one point he picked up a prostitute and was repulsed to learn that she was a man, due to sentiments at that time. Therefore the individual was brutally murdered and with bare fists of Bernardo as well.
Due to this he was imprisoned but didn't want his little brother Ari to know and so pleaded him never to get involved. This shows he truly did deeply love Ari, although as for the rest of his family he refused to see or accept letters from them. Ari was also sent to his aunt and there sparked Ari's interest in him. Through the years when Ari reached 15 he wondered about his older brother. Seeing him in his dreams and knowing what Bernardo did caused a deep rift in his family. A hole that would never be healed.
Ari at one point came upon an envelope that eventually was opened up by him and his parents. Inside were pictures of Bernardo and Ari, and in a sense at that point Bernardo truly filled the family after a long time. This is also why his parents want to protect him from turning into such a monstrous person, albeit eventually Ari uncovers the truth from his family and learns everything. With them coming clean about how they hid it from him for his own good.

- While being unseen he is considered the overarching antagonist because if he were in Ari's life as indicated by the protagonist himself, Ari's life could have been drastically different with a better role model.
- Since there is so much sympathy placed on him he also appears to be the overarching protagonist.
