While it may seem like everything is in tip-top shape on the surface, Warzone 2.0 may be experiencing some tensions bubbling beneath.
Since its launch in November 2022, the new take on the Warzone formula has been pretty divisive amongst the community. Some love it, some hate it, and it's clear this new venture is not as beloved as the original incarnation.
To rectify that, fans are clamouring for the original map Verdansk to be reintroduced to Warzone 2.0, as a last-ditch effort in saving its already crumbling player base.
Can Verdansk Save Warzone?
— ModernWarzone (@ModernWarzone) January 14, 2023I legitimately think if they added Verdansk or Rebirth Island back to Warzone 1 its player count would be much higher than Warzone 2 is currently.
If this is true, it becomes even more obvious that reinventing the “wheel” that was Warzone 1 was a major mistake.

While a clear consensus of Warzone 2.0 is hard to gauge, players agree on one thing - they miss Verdansk. Social media is being bombarded with tributes to the classic map, while begging Infinity Ward to turn things around and bring it back.
When Warzone 2.0 launched, the player base peaked at 488,897 players, according to Steam Charts. However, within two months, that number has dropped by almost 50%. It's raising concerns among the Call of Duty community because out of the top 10 charts on Steam.
The backlash has seen various Call of Duty publications, content creators, streamers, and even players call for a return to Verdansk. One claimed the game brings them "zero joy", while another put out the bold statement that "Verdansk [is] the only iconic level made in the last 5-8 years."
Responses to these sorts of reactions seem to spark a wide range of agreement from readers, signalling trouble for the current iteration of Warzone 2.0.

Although many are screaming for Infinity Ward to save Warzone 2.0, there are currently no plans for Verdansk to be added in the immediate future.
Even original Warzone players are unable to drop in and experience it again, as it's since been removed entirely in favour of the lesser-known Caldera map.
If you do want your fix of Verdansk, it is being added to Warzone Mobile at some point this year. It won't exactly look as glorious as it once did on your shiny TV, but it may be able to recapture the magic players once had.
In the world of video games, plans change every other day, and with the dwindling player base, it's entirely possible that Infinity Ward push the emergency button and get to work on bringing Verdansk back. Until then, it sounds like we'll all have to get on with Warzone 2.0.
