Trios was first implemented in Chapter 2 Season 5 and has since become a staple of competitive Fortnite. It was the go-to for pro tournaments, streamers, and grinders. Once seen as the standard for tournaments, Trios is now gone from the game forever.
Ranked Changing Competitive Fortnite Forever
Last week, Epic Games teased some interesting symbols that looked very much like the ones you see in ranked modes in games like League of Legends. Turns out, it was hinting at a new Ranked mode, which would allow sweaty Fortnite players to climb up the competitive ladder to reach Elite.
Ranked mode also led to some big changes elsewhere in the game, however. Arena mode was removed, replaced by the new Ranked mode. Then, Epic announced that Trios were no more.
The modes that have a Ranked mode include:
Battle Royale
- Solo
- Duos
- Squads
Zero Build
- Duos
While this is a big change for Fortnite players, it’s being largely met with positive feedback from the competitive scene. Many pros worried about queue times in Ranked with teams as big as Trios.
But not everyone was a fan. Over on Twitter, a lot of Fortnite players questioned Epic’s decision to remove Trios. For many, it was their favorite game mode and the type of Fortnite they grinded nonstop. The sudden removal seemed a bit jarring and many questioned Epic’s decision-making abilities.
The Fortnite Championship Series 2023 has also removed Trios and switched to Duos, most likely in preparation for Ranked. This is the first big change to Fortnite’s lobby system since Trios was introduced back in 2019.
How to Watch the Fortnite Championship Series 2023
The FNCS 2023 is the 17th season and it comes with a new format. There are now three splits:
Each major has a three-week period, with the best teams from each major qualifying for an international tournament with all the top players in the world. The Finals has a $4 million prize pool, which is pretty crazy so tune in October 13-15.
But for now, get ready for the Major 3. Here’s the schedule:
- Weekly competition - July 20-23, July 27-30, August 3-6
- FNCS Major Three Surge Week - August 11-13
- FNCS Major Three Grand Finals - August 18-20
- FNCS Last Chance Major - August 24-27
