GREENVILLE — This year, Greenville joined U.S. News & World Report’s list of the Top 10 Best Places to live, topped only by Naples, Boise and Colorado Springs.
Greenville ranked fourth out of 150 major U.S. cities, which the publication evaluates based on its desirability, job market and quality of life. This is Greenville’s debut in a Top 10 spot for best places to live, and the only city from South Carolina to attain this accolade in 2024.
Last year, Greenville ranked 31st on the list, 13 spots below Myrtle Beach — which ranked 18th.
This year, U.S. News said it adjusted scoring weights to give stronger considerations to a city’s “value and job market.”
“Rising concerns about career prospects, housing affordability and increased cost of goods and services are reflected in this year’s rankings,” Erika Giovanetti, a loans expert and reporter at U.S. News & World Report, said in a press release.
When asked about what might have contributed to Greenville’s jump in rank, VisitGreenvilleSC CEO Heath Dillard said it’s “hard to put your finger on any one thing that makes Greenville special.”
VisitGreenvilleSC promotes the city as a must-see travel destination and supports efforts to attract new events and businesses to the area.
“If you build a place people want to visit, you’ll build a place that people want to live,” Dillard said, and if people want to live there, businesses and a booming economy are sure to follow.
