H A T E [Betty (Bete) Noire x Male Reader] - Prologue: Unlocked S O U L (2024)

(Y/N) was having a normal day at school, ever since Monsters came to the surface from the UNDERGROUND things have been way more interesting. When one of the monsters, Toriel, (Y/N) thought her name was, became a teacher and decided to see which children had traits in their souls, each of them were examined alone, just in case they may feel embarrassed about their souls, about 40% had traits, roughly 30% of the minority had souls of Kindness, the rest were other colours, Blue for INTEGRITY, Green for KINDNESS, Cyan for PATIENCE, Purple for PERSEVERANCE, Orange for BRAVERY, Yellow for JUSTICE and Red for DETERMINATION. There was only one person currently with a red soul, their name was Frisk, they were kinder than most, braver than most, more patient than most, but they seemed as if they persevered too much and has their integrity nearly crumbled, they seem to be questioning their moral compass, as if they don't know who's a victim, who's the cause. But enough about Frisk, this story is about (Y/N). When Toriel examined (Y/N)'s soul she seemed confused. (Y/N) was still young and should have a trait, especially since he was kind to everyone. Toriel expected KINDNESS or maybe even JUSTICE, but... it was just a faded grey.

(Y/N): "Miss Toriel?" He asked, Toriel turning her head to the young teen. "Is that bad?" He asked worriedly.

Toriel: "Well... it's certainly unusual. You are still young and should be brimming with KINDNESS or something, but I can tell that your soul does have a trait. It's just... faded or dulled." She said with her normal calm demeanour. "Even still, your soul should just be a faded version of your trait. Without knowing what your soul trait is, I can't help you unlock it. I'm sorry." She apologised sadly.

(Y/N): "That's fine Miss Toriel. I'll see you in class." He walked back to class and was immediately swarmed with questions.

(Y/N) tried avoiding the questions but after class he was pinned against a couple lockers by 5 people. (Y/N) recognised them as the school's unofficial resident bullies. Kieth, Ray, Trish, Damien and Levi. Kieth spoke up.

Kieth: "What's your soul type?" He asked with a strangely kind tone.

(Y/N): "W-why would you even want to know?" He asked, his voice failing at faking confidence.

Kieth was about to throw a punch but Trish intervened.

Trish: "Come on, you can tell us. We won't tell anyone." She said with an eerily sweet smile. "Besides, a little birdie told me, you have a crush on me. If you don't tell us your soul trait, I might just accidentally let slip that fact and you'll be shunned for having a crush on me."

Trish was lying, (Y/N) knew that he never told a single soul that he liked her. Hell he didn't even have friends. He tried pushing Keith off of him. Ray and Levi pinned his arms to the wall. Other students had gathered around to see the commotion.

Trish: "Tell me now, or I will tell everyone here." She threatened.

(Y/N) was getting angry, he didn't want to say that his soul was pretty much without a trait, he HATED it. He struggled more but the bullies were stronger. Damien threw a punch to (Y/N)'s gut. (Y/N) refused to tell them what they wanted. Trish yelled out in response.

Trish: "(Y/N) has a crush on me!" She yelled out.

The crowd ew'd and almost walked away until (Y/N) spoke up.

(Y/N): "Why'd a bitch like you catch my interest?" He asked starting to chuckle.

Trish: "I'm irresistible."

(Y/N) with his newfound confidence retorted.

(Y/N): "More like intolerable."

The crowd stated for the roasts. Damien threw another punch, this time to the shoulder. It hurt like hell but (Y/N) powered through.

Trish: "Then hit me if you don't like me at all." She said taunting him.

(Y/N): "Oh I'm so ready to smack a bitch but that would be classed as animal abuse."

Crowd: "OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

On the surface (Y/N) seemed calm and confident. But deep down, he felt fear, he was scared of how everyone will treat him. He already wasn't treated the best, even now everyone is just standing back and watching him get hit, over, over and over. Soon enough Toriel came by along with Frisk, they watched for a good .2 seconds before jumping in to stop the group. Strange... does Frisk just help because they're the ambassador for monsters? They never helped before. They watched before, they only helped because a monster was there... do they just want to protect their image in the eyes of monsters.

(Y/N): 'I HATE it when people pretend to be someone they aren't.'

The group was given detention for 10 break times and have to stay in school for 30 minutes after school for today and tomorrow.

(Y/N) overheard comments from classmates and some of the teachers.

"Weak."
"Wimp."
"He has a crush on Trish? What an idiot."
"Do I have to have him in my class?"
"What an embarrassment to the school."

The majority of comments were to be expected, except one.

"He should just leave, no one would miss him. Heck! If he died nobody'd care!"

(Y/N) ran home, if it could be called that.

(Y/N): "I can't deal with Dad today... not today." He changed his direction to go to the centre of the city.

He saw a new police officer, she was a monster. Officer Undyne. The new girl on the force but already more experienced than all the others.

Undyne: "Hey, kid!" She called out. (Y/N) turned to her with glazed over eyes, as if all emotion had left him. "Shouldn't you be in school?" She asked.

(Y/N): "Uhmm..." He saw no point in lying to the officer. "I'm just taking a walk." He said truthfully. But he started to lie. "I'll be back at school soon."

Undyne: "Hmmm... Okay! Be back at school, I'll check at the school in thirty minutes. Be there by then." She said.

(Y/N) nodded but kept walking about. He got a burger at Grillby's and as he exited the building he saw a car approaching a girl at full speed. Before he could even think, he ran over to the girl and pushed her out of the way and was hit by the car. His vision went black but he saw the face of the girl he had saved. She had beautiful brown hair that reached her shoulders with pink tainting the tip of the hair. Her eyes were pink, she had a single eye covered by her hair. She had a pink and purple striped sweater.

As he was losing blood from the impact of the hit of the high speed vehicle his mind can only project his bullies. Trish; her punching and insulting. Ray; twisting arms and wrenching ankles. Damien; striking legs and punching guts. Kieth; pinning and allowing the others to do their thing. Levi; kicking kneecaps and grabbing the throat, tightening his grip as the seconds pass. Dad; starving (Y/N) and breaking bones for simply talking back.
He... couldn't handle it. He... he...

*fizzle*

*crack*

A/N: I hope this is a good enough prologue. Considering this is my second "Villain" x reader story but what can I say? I like yanderes. But more to the point, girls with short hair. Think about it...
Experimental Music - Kyoka Jirou
Fakes! - Ochaco Uraraka
Faded Corners - Himiko Toga
