Mouch (Christian Stolte) is a Chicago Fire institution. The character has been delighting audiences since the pilot episode, often bringing a steady hand and fatherly advice to the younger men in the 51.
Conversely, Chicago Fire is known for killing characters off in shocking fashion. There have been several sudden deaths over the last decade, many of which serve to illustrate just how risky the life of a firefighter can be. So, with these two concepts in mind, does Mouch die? Is the character already dead?
Thankfully, Mouch is alive and well. There’s been some confusion over his fate, especially as Chicago Fire reruns air, but the character’s first real brush with death came in the season 5 finale. The episode, titled “My Miracle”, sees Mouch trapped in a burning factory and suffering from a heart attack. The rest of the team is seemingly unable to rescue him, and the season ends with a cliffhanger as to his fate.
The next season opens with the reveal that Mouch made it. The character is deeply affected by his experience in the factory, and admits he considered walking away from firefighting. He ultimately decides that he will stay, as he loves his brothers and sisters at the 51 and hopes to “never look down that dark tunnel” again.
The heart attack also prompts Mouch to reconsider his health. He vows to take better care of his physique and has not had any heart-related scares since. The idea of mortality is something that’s been on the minds of several characters in season 10.
Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) experienced a crisis of confidence when he nearly died in the premiere, and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) was shaken by the near death of a child he found in a car wreck. It adds to the sense of realism and emotional strain that these characters go through for work, and it serves to bolster the moments in which they succeed.
More recently, the character has a near-death experience again in season 11 when getting shot. He’s raced to the hospital and seems to be in stable condition, especially after it’s revealed that he was actually hit with shrapnel. However, Herrmann pays Mouch a visit at the hospital and realizes his wound has reopened and he’s bleeding very badly. He takes a bad turn quickly and passes out before beginning to flatline. That’s how the episode ends, and we do not know what Mouch’s fate is at this time.
At this time, it hasn’t been reported that Christian Stolte is departing the show, so for now, we expect him to return. Of course, we’ll be sure to update our readers with any information we get ahead of Chicago Fire season 12.

Throughout Season 5 of Chicago Fire, Mouch was considering retirement. In the Season 5 finale ("My Miracle"), Mouch then suffered a heart attack while fighting a warehouse fire. Herrmann desperately tried to assist his friend, but fans had to wait until the Season 6 premiere to learn of his condition.
Mouch survives a near-death experience and goes through rehab in season 12, resulting in a renewed outlook on life. Despite considering retirement, Mouch continues to contribute to Firehouse 51 and won't be leaving the force this year.

Some Make It, Some Don't is the ninth episode of the fifth season and the 101st overall episode of Chicago Fire. It is the first part of a two-part crossover between Chicago Fire and concludes with Chicago P.D.
While she criticized Mouch for the mucky workplace proposal, she later apologized and proposed to Mouch herself. In Season 4, Episode 18 ("On the Warpath"), Trudy and Mouch got married at Chicago Fire mainstay bar Molly's and became One Chicago's only crossover marriage.

[In] storytelling and in terms of real life, 12 years is a long time and things need to change, just dynamic-wise. The good news: While 51 does say goodbye to Gallo (Alberto Rosende), Mouch (Christian Stolte), after that very bloody shrapnel injury in the Season 11 finale, is alive!
The fireball sets Jimmy on fire and he suffers severe burns to the left side of his face. Later, in the hospital, doctors reveal that they were not able to save his left eye, thus ending his career as a firefighter. He is not seen again after this incident.
