Is June a Good Time to Visit Miami?

While there are higher crowds in June, it is still a very good time to visit Miami. There are miles of coastline to take in and cool off from the effects of summer, and an enormous amount of activities to take part in.

Weather

Miami in June [Weather, What to Wear, Things to Do] (1)

June in Miami tends to have high temperatures and hot and muggy days. The humidity isnā€™t as bad this month as in the months to come, as the breeze from the coastline keeps the effects lower.

June is still the beginning of the wet season in Miami, with frequent rain showers and hot and muggy weather. The average high temperature ranges from 86Ā°F to 88Ā°F (30-31Ā°C). It is the first month of hurricane season though uncommon this month, with consistent rainfall of an average of 5.9-6.3 inches.

June in Miami | Temperature Progression (Average High):

  • Early June: 86Ā°F (30Ā°C)
  • Mid-June: 87Ā°F (31Ā°C)
  • Late June: 88Ā°F (31Ā°C)
Rainfall

June is in the early period of the rainy season, so visitors should expect frequent rain showers on most days in Miami. Keep an umbrella or raincoat handy if you plan on being outdoors in the afternoons. Precipitation remains typically constant throughout the month, from 5.9 to 6.3 inches.

šŸ’” June is the start of hurricane season, but it is uncommon this month and tropical storms are not as prevalent.

However, keep in mind that Miami is Floridasā€™ first line of defense when it comes to approaching hurricanes and tropical storms.

Can it rain the whole day? Rainfall wonā€™t spoil your whole Miami trip, as it typically wonā€™t last long. Itā€™s often a passing shower in the late afternoon or early evening hours.

Heat/Humidity

Miamiā€™s summers are hot and muggy. However, the humidity in June isnā€™t as intense as whatā€™s to come in the following summer months. The humidity levels in Miami during this month are 65-86%, with an average of 73%.

Itā€™s not unbearable hot in June because the breezes off the ocean keep the extreme heat inland, not on the beaches of Miami. That means extreme temperatures are unlikely in South Beach or Miami Beach.

The humidity levels peak in the early morning hours around 4-8 am.

Daily Weather Progression

June temperatures tend to stay consistent throughout the day, with high temperatures starting in the early morning, and rain showers in the afternoons.

Typical daily temperature progression:

  • Early Morning (6 AM): 80Ā°F
  • Early Afternoon (1 PM): 87Ā°F
  • Evening (10 PM): 81Ā°F

Mornings are usually bright and filled with sunshine, sometimes leading to rain showers in the afternoon and early evening.

Evenings: It is finally cooling off in the later evening and at night, with lower humidity levels and a higher breeze from the coastline.

Water Temperature

Miami in June [Weather, What to Wear, Things to Do] (2)

June has ideal water temperatures in Miami, Florida. The average ocean temperature is 84Ā°F (28.8Ā°C). With Miami being in the southern part of Florida, these are some of the warmest waters in the sunshine state and are perfect for swimmers and surfers.

Be cautious, warm water is one of the main ingredients of a tropical storm and hurricanes love warm water too. June is the start of the Atlantic hurricane season. While hurricanes arenā€™t as frequent this early in the season, there is still potential.

Outfits | Packing Tips & What to Wear

Miami in June [Weather, What to Wear, Things to Do] (3)

Any clothing style is acceptable in Miami and you will see a wide range of summer attire during June, especially around South Beach. Miami gives visitors a chance to wear their trendiest summer outfits.

šŸ’” Tip: For the breeze that comes with the coastline, a light jacket or sweater can be useful in the evening. Especially if you get cold easily.

During June in Miami, with hot and muggy temperatures, wear t-shirts, shorts, and tank tops throughout the day. While shorts are still appropriate in the evenings, a light sweater is helpful. Keep a poncho or rain jacket handy in the afternoon for frequent rain showers.

  • Sandals
  • Shorts
  • Tanks & Cut-offs
  • T-shirts & V-necks
  • Raincoat or Poncho
  • Sundresses
  • Bathing Suit/Swim Trunks
  • Bathing Suit Cover Up
  • LOOSE FIT CLOTHING

Additional items to pack:

  • Sunscreen
  • Umbrella
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Bug Spray
  • Water Bottle -stay hydrated!
  • Small backpack or fanny pack
  • Water shoes
Restaurant Tip

When staying in Miami during June, we recommend keeping a sweater or light jacket handy for dining out in indoor restaurants. Since the temperature outdoors is mainly hot, the air conditioners are on high power 24/7.

Heat/Meds

When traveling in Miami we suggest always bringing some medicine for a headache. The heat in Miami is powerful and if you arenā€™t used to a warm climate, this could really put a damper on your vacation.

Dresses

During Miamiā€™s summer months, many like to wear dresses that are short, fun, and have bright colors. They are great for any daytime activity, like visiting museums, or walking along South Beach or Miami Beach.

During the day, when the summer sun is strong, you should wear clothes that arenā€™t too tight. Maybe a dress with patterns or designs to make them more interesting. A good idea is a pair of eye-catching sandals, sunglasses, and a small beach bag.

Always be prepared for rain! Intermittent drizzle is very common on most days, especially in June, and sometimes it can turn into an hours-long downpour.

Keep a small umbrella or poncho handy, and donā€™t forget about a spare change of shoes! Some of the drainage systems are ineffective, meaning you will find large puddles wherever you go if you walk in the rain.

Tops/Shorts

Miami in June [Weather, What to Wear, Things to Do] (22)

Khaki shorts and loose crew neck style tops are great examples of outfits we love for day trip activities in June. For the rest of your time spent oceanside, a bathing suit will suffice.

Pro tip: For ladies, if you have a day of activities planned that includes some time at the beach in Miami or pool, you can plan on wearing your bathing suit with a dress or shorts thrown over it to minimize the amount of clothes you need to carry throughout the day.

Particularly in Miami, itā€™s acceptable in some places to walk around wearing a mix of a bathing suit and regular clothes.

Whether you plan on going to the beach or just walking around to see the sights, it might be helpful to carry a spare change of clothes in your bag in case you get wet, sandy, sweaty, or all of the above!

šŸ’” Itā€™s important to try to stick to lighter colors during the day to avoid absorbing too much sun, but feel free to wear as much or as little color as you like around nighttime.

Comfortable shoes are a must, no matter where you go. Donā€™t underestimate the amount of walking you will be doing.

šŸ’” Without comfortable walking shoes, you might end up with blisters and hurting feet at the end of the day.

Please donā€™t wear flip-flops, especially because you just may lose them on the park rides. If you plan on heading to a theme park and climbing on a water ride, make sure to take off your sneakers and socks before the ride is operational.

Otherwise, you could be walking around with soaked feet all day. If that isnā€™t an option for you, plan on doing the water rides at the very end of your day at the park.

Walking Tip

Miami in June [Weather, What to Wear, Things to Do] (35)

While you should bring walking shoes no matter what part of Miami you plan on visiting, having both sandals and sneakers with you can be helpful, especially if you spend the day traversing near the beaches of Miami.

If you plan on switching between walking around and lounging by the water, bring a spare pair of shoes.

Other suggestions would be sunglasses, a small backpack for day trips, sandals with support, a beach bag, hat, water shoes (if doing water sports or boating), a water bottle for hydration, SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, a small portable fan, cooler, and of course your Mickey Mouse ears for Disney.

šŸ’” When visiting Miami, we always keep a sweater or light jacket handy throughout the day for dining out in indoor restaurants. Since the temperature outside is mainly hot, the air conditioners are on full blast. If you are someone who tends to get cold easily, this is a great tip to keep in mind.

Tip: One thing we have learned from traveling in Florida is to always bring some medicine for a headache. The Florida heat is no joke, and if you arenā€™t used to a warm climate, this could really bring a damper to your visit.

It may also be a good idea to invest in some electrolytes, like Gatorade or Liquid IV, which you can mix into water. This will help replace the loss of electrolytes that water canā€™t, and help prevent heat-related headaches or exhaustion.

Sun Protection

While it is very important to protect yourself from the heat with hats, water, electrolytes, and light, loose clothing, you should also take the sunā€™s rays into great consideration. Not only should you be wearing sunscreen while out and about in Florida, but you should wear sunscreen with adequate SPF.

Dermatologists and the Skin Cancer Foundation recommend using water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for any extended outdoor activity. You should also remember to reapply at least every two hours, especially if you are sweating or getting your skin wet.

Rates

Miami in June [Weather, What to Wear, Things to Do] (36)

  1. The New Hotel (Location: North Beach/Miami Beach): This is a hidden gem! Honestly, we donā€™t think you can find a cheaper one which is that good and so close to the beach. Miami in June [Weather, What to Wear, Things to Do] (37)

Miami tends to be taken over by tourists during the month of June. It is the start of the summer and everyone is trying to beat the heat and enjoy the endless miles of coastline.

The month of June is when the city of Miami really starts to shine. Due to the abundance of activities and events happening all over the city, visitors should expect higher crowds this month. Itā€™s getting less busy as the day goes on due to endless hours of heat and expected rainfall.

Good to know: The streets of South Beach will always be poppinā€™ with things to do, especially late in the evenings.

Beach crowds: Always remember, it is Florida, so beaches are going crowded when the weather is pleasant. However, Miami has a large coastline, so it is easy for visitors to spread out but be prepared for a lot of family vacations happening this month.

The area regarded as ā€˜Miami Beachā€™ is huge. It is possible to sit alone by the sea or be with groups of people gathered to play volleyball, do yoga, tan without clothing, meditate, and many other things. The beach feels infinite!

June is the kickoff to the summer season and brings an abundance of things to do in Miami. Between the various beaches, museums, restaurants, and shops, visitors have a never-ending list of things to do in Miami in June.

Beaches

You canā€™t call a visit to Miami in June complete without spending a day, or three, at the beach. Miami brings some of the warmest waters and most gorgeous coastlines in all of Florida. Depending on which type of beach you prefer, Miami has various different options for travelers. The two most popular beaches in the Miami area are South Beach and Miami Beach.

šŸ’” Avoiding Beach Crowds/Location: It depends on location, day of the week, and the weather, but in general, the beach is less crowded north of 23 street.

South Beach: This is one of the most popular beaches in the country and is loaded with restaurants, attractions, shops, and sights. Miami Beach: For visitors wanting a more relaxing and peaceful vibe on the beach, head north to Miami Beach. Ideal for travelers who are wanting to enjoy their time in Miami, without all the craziness and upbeat energy that comes along with South Beach.

Airplane or Heli Tours

You will love this flight!! Itā€™s an incredible journey to view Miami and Miami Beach from a breathtaking birdā€™s eye view. We did this one 3 times already! It makes you feel as if you are in your own private plane!

  • The Miami Seaquarium
  • The Bayside cruise port
  • Skyscrapers of downtown Miami

  • The Hard Rock Casino
  • Stunning Cayo Brickell

Everglades

Everglades National Park is just a short 30-mile drive west of downtown Miami. In June, the Everglades is generally hot and very wet, with an average high of 88Ā°F (31Ā°C) and an average low of 77Ā°F (25Ā°C).

It is the start of the rainy season and visitors should expect frequent showers most afternoons. Mornings and evenings will be the best time to spot animals due to rising water levels in the afternoons. Thatā€™s why we recommend a tour from Miami which starts at 9 AM:

Boat Tours

The city of Miami, especially Biscayne Bay, is filled with various different boat tour opportunities for travelers. Depending on your budget and interests; there is something for everyone. If boats arenā€™t your thing, jet skis (South Beach Jet Ski Rental) are also available as an alternative.

You can also float by Millionaire Row and Celebrity Island for views of some of the most beautiful homes in all of Miami, owned by famous celebrities such as Shaquille Oā€™Neal and P.Diddy. We highly recommend checking out this tour:

There are also sunset tours, city tours, and boat tours all over the area of Biscayne Bay. Sunset tours are great for group or girls trips, and a superb way to end an evening of exploring:

Water Sports

The abundance of water sports available in Miami is unmatched. You can take part in kayaking/canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and jet skiing all over the city of Miami.

Since Florida has some of the bluest waters in the state, Key Largo Marine Sanctuary has some of the best snorkeling and diving spots in the country.

Great for beginners, and seasoned SUP lovers as well, Crandon Park has calm waters and little distractions, and ideal conditions for stand-up paddleboarding.

Wynwood Arts District

A personal favorite activity of ours is the Wynwood Arts District. This outdoor street museum is filled with street art, graffiti, and art installments that are unique, beautiful, and historical as well. There are guided tours available if you are interested in learning about the history.

It is also the ideal place to get the perfect new profile picture as there are dozens of backdrops available for creators.

Little Havana

This is a ā€˜must seeā€™ in Miami if you are a lover of food. Little Havana offers a little taste of Cuba right in the middle of Miami. It is a very walkable neighborhood and there are guided walking tours daily as well.

While you are here in June, donā€™t forget to stop by Versailles restaurant; Miamiā€™s most popular Cuban restaurant dating back to 1971.

Museums

Miami has a museum for every type of traveler. Depending on your interests, Miami is home to history, science, art, and interactive museums for visitors of all ages. This is a great activity for rainy afternoons in June.

If you are a lover of music, head downtown to the Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday evenings for live music. If history is more your cup of tea, you may enjoy the Vizcaya museum and gardens, with history and facts dating back to the 19th century, and beautiful views. Additionally, and great for kids, The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is not only a museum but also a planetarium and aquarium.

Bayside Marketplace

Located in the heart of downtown, the Bayside Marketplace is another one of our personal favorite places to spend an afternoon. Located on the Bay close to Miamiā€™s port, visitors can enjoy an afternoon of shopping and snacking at the various stores and cafes at the marketplace. This is an ideal place to grab any last-minute gifts or souvenirs!
