It's one day late (as I meant to publish this yesterday but was delayed), but this week's Impact newsletter focuses on all the new AI features and demos shown by ChatGPT and Google this past week and how they will impact everyday users. There are some seriously impactful advancements, and future use cases could transform the world. Yet, like all things AI, there are plenty of use cases that give me pause as the impact on jobs and life will grow ever larger. Come take a read, and subscribe for more on the Impact of Technology by House of Technology!

Bard is a conversational generative AI chatbot developed by Google. Much like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Bard allows you to ask questions and get help with projects and ideas, as if you were speaking to a human on a messaging app.Typically, when you ask Bard a question there’s a delay between sending the question and a response appearing. Now, you’ll be able to ask the bot to respond as it’s creating an answer. There’s still a bit of a delay, but you’ll see a response come in line-by-line as Bard creates it.

Just another Monday....and yeah....more #AI news. This pace is just energizing if you are into that type of thing :)I remember when Sheetal Jaitly was building #voice assisted apps for the top voice products for people. He was ahead of many in the space (and still is) and was a solid bet. Appen has been providing #language services to leading brands leveraging voice in their AI systems for 20 years. We know the power of this modality. It is fantastic to see all of these modalities get tools to enable some level of democratization so the right applications to be built to propel us forward. Many great examples in this article and continued hats off to OpenAI and their thought leadership (and execution against it). There are some scary implications though. Maybe I am getting old but I always freak out when the spammers call me, I answer for fear it is one of my kids and then they just record your voice. The industry has one of the most talented tech minds in the space working on this in Joshua McKenty. Can't wait to see what he builds. So much amazing momentum. So much opportunity. So many great minds out there that seek to make this a wonderful application for all of us. https://lnkd.in/efniggWR

Big tech companies are gearing up for a major showdown over who can best answer people's questions. Google has been on top for years, but now ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI and backed by Microsoft, is giving them a run for their money. More and more people are turning to chatbots like ChatGPT for quick answers instead of traditional internet searches. It's a battle that could reshape how we get information online. #AI #Chatbots #TechShowdown

AI is everywhere but the jury is out on just how beneficial it will be. The technology is moving so fast, we just have to ride the wave and see where it takes us. Just as Donnie MacNicol came along and worked with us to develop Team Praxis, Martin Paver and his colleagues at Projecting Success suggested we work together on a project delivery AI application that we decided to call Marvin.Marvin addresses a key problem with AI such as ChatGPT and Co-pilot. While the technology is based on ChatGPT, we are very careful about the content that is used to train Marvin. There’s a lot of low quality content on the internet, much of it generated as clickbait articles. Generic AIs can’t assess the quality of content, so it all gets included in answers to prompts. People use this well of variable quality content to write more articles, that are in turn referenced by AI, and we end up with a feedback circuit that amplifies messages of dubious quality.Marvin is different. He is only trained on content from credible, authoritative and peer reviewed sources. You won’t find him in the OpenAI app store because, guess what, he’s free. Marvin is a work in progress and perhaps we’re still mad to put all this effort in and then just give it away – but we have a disruptive reputation to maintain. You can see our first videos that make use of Marvin’s capabilities here: https://lnkd.in/eaurW9auFollow our page or the hashtag #madanddisruptive and we’ll explain more each day this week.#praxisframeworkcommunity

Now Bard becomes Gemini 🚀Google launches Gemini Ultra, its most powerful LLM yet👉 Google renames Bard to Gemini, launches paid ‘Gemini Advanced’ with Ultra 1.0👉 Gemini is the company’s much-anticipated response to ChatGPT and OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, which was the industry leader to this point.👉 Based on my early testing, Gemini Ultra matches or exceeds GPT-4’s performance. In particular, there’s one thing that Gemini Ultra does way better than ChatGPT.👉 Gemini’s release is Google’s biggest AI move in at least a year, and Gemini is now ChatGPT’s only true competitor.👉 On their official launch page, Google provides three examples of the new things Gemini Ultra can do. I decided to test the model’s performance by trying each of those thing and found that results are really good and promising. ⭐️ I have canceled my OpenAI Premium subscription and am now using Gemini's 2-month FREE trial—yes, a free trial is indeed available for two months. The circle of life... That was my first thought when seeing this chart showing declining traffic on the wildly popular developer site, Stack Overflow (SO). I say that because I remember feeling the pain of SO back when I was in the tech book publishing sector; Google hurt but SO's impact was much more significant, especially when your primary audience was IT professionals. Now we see SO's traffic declining, and precipitously so since the start of 2023. What else happened towards the start of 2023? ChatGPT happened. And so did a slew of other genAI-powered coding services, or at least that's how I interpret this chart. In an earlier post I mentioned that IT pros are leading indicators when it comes to adopting new technologies. If this downward slope from early 2023 is tied to generative AI, I'd say the movement is more than well underway.https://lnkd.in/gCureWdd#ai #artificialintelligence #genai #stackoverflow

𝟳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶, 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜’𝘀 𝗚𝗣𝗧Google seems all set to take on ChatGPT with Gemini..properly this time. Here’s everything you need to know about the company’s smartest AI model to date.2023 was a surprising year for AI – the company long considered as the AI top dog lost at its own game to a startup unheard of by many before its meteoric rise. Caught off guard, Google scrambled to catch up with its own AI chatbot offering in the form of Bard, but that was proved unremarkable by users, at least when compared to others in the race. Now the search engine giant looks geared to dethrone OpenAI with a fresh start – a new family of AI models called Gemini that’s seemingly built from the ground up. And if Google’s own comparisons are to be believed, the AI model does seem to outperform GPT-4 across multiple parameters, particularly the multimodal ones. The company has already plugged bits of it into the Pixel 8 Pro and Bard, but that’s just a start. Below, we’ve compiled everything Google has in store with ChatGPT’s biggest possible threat.1. Gemini sees and talks like a real person2. Can practically run on anything3. Trained using Tensor Processing Units4. Gemini Ultra beats GPT-4 in benchmarks5. Pixel 8 Pro will benefit too6. Safety check7. A new lease of life to Bard
