One Piece: 16 Anime Characters That Can Defeat Gear 5th Luffy (2024)

In the Wano Country arc, Luffy finally awakened the true power of his devil fruit. The awakening of his devil fruit is dubbed Gear 5th, and it is quite different from any of his previous forms. While using Gear 5th, Luffy is able to extend his elasticity to inanimate objects.

Luffy's devil fruit awakening allowed him to beat Kaido, who was considered the "Strongest Creature in the World." In his Gear 5th form, there are not many One Piece characters who can defeat him. However, there are plenty of other characters from other anime series who can defeat Gear 5th Luffy.

Saiki Kusuo is the main protagonist of The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. He might not be as famous as some of the other anime characters on the list, but there is no denying that he is an extremely powerful character. Saiki possesses a variety of powers, which include hypnosis, clairvoyance, mind control, petrification, telekinesis, etc.

With the help of these powers, Saiki can easily crush his opponents. Luffy's Gear 5th is strong in its own right, but it won't be sufficient to defeat someone like Saiki.

Anime: Hunter x Hunter

Mereum was the king of the Chimera Ants. He was ruthless and arrogant, believing that all other races were inferior to him. Due to this reason, Mereum had no qualms about killing and cannibalizing members of his own race. If someone dared to question his authority, Mereum would immediately shut them down.

Mereum was blessed both physically and mentally. He was able to learn and master all of his abilities in next to no time. Furthermore, Mereum's physical abilities allowed him to compete with the likes of Isaac Netero, the strongest Hunter of his time, effortlessly. In a fight to death, Mereum would have absolutely no problem beating Luffy.

Gilgamesh is one of the main antagonists of the Fate series. When he was still alive, he used to rule the city of Uruk. He strongly believed that he was superior to everyone else. Due to this reason, Gilgamesh placed himself before the people of his own kingdom.

Gilgamesh possesses the Gates of Babylon, a Noble Phantasm that grants him access to all his collected treasures. Gilgamesh's most trusted Noble Phantasms are Enkidu and Ea. Enkidu allows him to bind his targets in place while Ea can finish them off.

The human version of Griffith cannot hold a candle to Gear 5th Luffy. However, if one were to take Griffith's power after the eclipse into consideration, things would change completely. Following his rebirth as Femto, Griffith became one of the most powerful characters in Berserk.

No mortal human is capable of harming him, and the only characters capable of rivaling him are the other members of God Hand. Griffith is able to manipulate gravity and space. He can distort space and redirect an opponent's attack back at them. So, even the strongest of Luffy's attacks won't leave a scratch on Griffith.

Gojo Satoru is an incredibly talented fighter who is considered to be the best sorcerer in the entire series. He has tremendous reflexes that enable him to dodge attacks that would normally be impossible to avoid. Satoru is apt at hand-to-hand combat, and he can take down opponents who are bigger than him.

Gojo Satoru's biggest asset is his mastery of cursed energy. He can use techniques such as Limitless, Infinity, and Unlimited Void. His Hollow Technique: Purple is a special ability that can erase all kinds of matter in its path. Gojo Satoru can use this technique to easily take down Luffy.

1 Shanks

Anime: One Piece

Shanks is one of the Yonko and arguably the most powerful character in One Piece. He has been confirmed to be a user of three types of Haki, and it is fair to assume that he has mastered all of them. Shanks has shown that he can match any character in combat.

He has clashed with Kaido, Whitebeard, and Mihawk, and all of them hold him in very high regard. While Luffy may have defeated Kaido, it is important to remember that Kaido had fought countless other people before finally facing Luffy. If they were to have a rematch, the outcome would be different. This makes it obvious that someone as strong as Shanks can get the better of Luffy in a fight.
