Only mine (2024)

Coucou, tout le monde!

Mon doute peut vous sembler trôp simple, mais j'ai vraiment besoin de le savoir. Comment est-ce que je dire "It's only mine" ou "He's only mine" ou bien "only mine"? Je préfère des petites phrases, mais quelque aide sera très bonne en tout cas. Merci d'avance!

But I don't want to write "mon petit ami, c'est seulement le mien" or something like that, I'd rather use short sentences like in English "only mine". Would that be "le mien seul"?

Pieanne, j'ai compris ce qu' "on ne touche pas" veut dire, mais quel est le sens de la phrase exactement? J'ai fait de recherches et il y a plusieurs manières de l'utiliser.

boa tarde janalima - in English you wouldn't normally say, "He's only mine" to express (as I think you mean) that he belongs to you and to nobody else. You would say, "He's mine" or "He's mine alone"

I know that "you're only mine", "he's only mine" are not used in formal speech or writing, but I think it's ok when it comes to informal speech, isn't it? People talk like that all the time (especially on the net) and there are also many song lyrics with this kind of construction. I hope I'm not annoying you for I know you were only trying to help me!

Bom dia jalamina. Of course you're not annoying me. There is nothing at all wrong with the construction, "he's only mine", and it could be used in formal speech and writing, but it might not be quite what you want to say. Used on its own like that it might suggest that being yours is not particularly exciting! (Like "He's only a dustman"). "He's mine!" is, for me, more powerful and suggestive of exclusivity.
Your construction does appear in song lyrics - and I found this one: "He's only mine for half part of the year/ And leaves me alone with nothing but a tear".
