Texas A&M University hits the jackpot with yet another impressive recruit for 2027! Alex Barone, a talented distance swimmer, has committed to the Aggies, marking a significant step in his athletic journey.
Fitter and Faster Swim Camps, the proud sponsor of SwimSwam's College Recruiting Channel, is thrilled to celebrate Barone's achievement. For aspiring swimmers, representing a college team is a dream, and Barone is well on his way to making it a reality.
Currently, Barone showcases his skills at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, Massachusetts, and Charles River Aquatics. His hard work paid off when he was named one of SwimSwam's 'Best of the Rest' (BOTR) distance freestylers in the Way Too Early Recruit Rankings for the Boys' High School Class of 2027. This prestigious recognition highlights his potential, and Texas A&M is the perfect place to nurture it.
But here's where it gets exciting: Barone's commitment to Texas A&M is their third BOTR recruit from the same class! And he's not just a talented athlete; he's also a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.
In his own words, Barone expressed his gratitude: 'I am blessed to continue my academic and athletic journey at Texas A&M. Coaches Jon, Alessandro, and Blaire have been instrumental in my development, and I'm thankful for their guidance. This opportunity wouldn't be possible without my family, friends, and God. GIG EM!'
Barone's recent achievements are a testament to his prowess. At the 2025 NEPSAC Division II Championship, he dominated the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events, setting personal records. But he didn't stop there. At the Speedo Sectionals in Ithaca, he posted multiple lifetime bests, solidifying his status as a rising star.
And this is the part most people miss—Barone's versatility is remarkable. He excels in various freestyle distances, as evidenced by his top yard times: 1:38.03 in the 200 free, 4:26.20 in the 500 free, 9:09.49 in the 1000 free, and 15:40.22 in the 1650 free. These times are impressive, especially considering he still has almost two years to improve before joining the Aggies.
Texas A&M's men's team finished 5th at the 2025 SEC Championships, and Barone's addition will undoubtedly strengthen their distance squad. With the graduation of Trey Dickey, who held the school record in the 500, 1000, and 1650 free, Barone has the opportunity to make his mark.
When Barone arrives on campus, he'll join fellow BOTR recruits Micah Tennison and Jackson Irwin, as well as Quinn Caputo and Parker Knapp. Irwin, in particular, will be a great training partner, with similar strengths in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle events.
