Everyone starts to attack the monster, but anyone snared by its tentacles becomes petrified. In his delusion, Vax finds himself on a battleground where he must face an undead Purvan, the lone survivor of the Matron of Ravens.

Zahra reluctantly accompanies Kash as he attempts to aid after declaring that he has had, and they’re no equal for, the monster. When Vax concedes defeat to Purvan and succeeds in the trial, the Matron grants him superhuman strength and speed.
While Kash treats the others who are frightened, he repels the thing. Vax eliminates the monster himself, and Zahra removes everyone from the water. Zahra offers Vex her talisman to store a monster and call it when necessary before she and Kash depart the group.
Vax informs his sister that he witnessed the Matron of Ravens. He is afraid, and Vex reassures him. He will not know what all of this means for them. When Keyleth was a tiny child, her dad told her that she would have to travel to her Aramenté as she saw her mother leave.
This memory diverts her as the group constructs a refuge near Pyrah, the Ashari’s residence. While walking to the restroom, Grog speaks to his blade, Craven’s Edge. The blade promises to give Grog power as long as he gives it blood.
Vax, who is on guard, experiences a nightmare and wakes up everybody else. He goes outdoors and makes an unsuccessful attempt to remove the Ward. The broomstick they purchased from Gilmore’s has magic markings, so Vex retains it.
As soon as Scanlan sees it, the broomstick starts to fly. In exchange for her commitment to owe him one favor—which might be whatever he wants at any time—he promises to show Vex the term. As Scanlan warns everybody that there is an active volcano close, Keyleth responds that it is meant to be inactive.
Pyrah is in trouble since the gap between the fire planes is wide and active. Vax wants to keep on course, while Keyleth wants to aid the Fire Ashari. Vex persuades her brother that Keyleth would do anything to help Pyrah if, indeed, the situation is reversed as he transforms into a bird and soars toward him.
When Keyleth sees a community in disarray, he unleashes animals to defend the residents. She sees her dad, Korren, as she approaches the volcano’s core. While Keyleth is unsure about herself, Korren thinks his child can assist in closing the plane.
Keyleth panics when Korren is knocked out but calms down when she recognizes her mother on the phone in the wind and moves toward the rift. As her mother instructed, she passes through it and accepts the flames. She returns safely after successfully closing the rift from the other side.
Keyleth gains Pyrah’s approval and fulfills the first phase of her Aramenté by mastering the fire element. Having been watching Vox, Anna Ripley confronts the dragon Umbrasyl with such a suggestion. In Grog’s dream, he murders every one of his buddies to appease the bloodlust of his sword.
Pike starts to worry that Grog may be experiencing a problem and questions him about it. Finally, they reach the vicinity of Rimecleft, which Vax had previously seen in a vision. They are expected to discover Osysa’s companion there.
They discover a huge pillar with warnings, but Vex rides her broom upward and discovers a hidden door in the mountain. The sphinx, known as Kamljiori, greets them as they enter an old temple. He realizes that if they can succeed in one of his trials, he will provide them with the necessary information.
