One of the things that makes Disney princesses so recognizable is their outfits.

The Ultimate Guide to Princess Costumes for Disney Adults (2)

From the iconic color schemes to the silhouettes and even to their accessories, each princess has a unique look that is part of what makes them so distinguishable! Plus with so many gorgeous looks it’s no surprise many of us want to dress up like them from time to time.

You are always welcome to dress up like your favorite princess at home, but at Disney World, there are many rules for wearing costumes in the parks. Guests ages 14 and oldercannot wear costumes in Disney theme parks, water parks, or ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This is to prevent non-Disney employees from engaging with other guests or causing confusion while portraying any character in costume.

There are some exceptions to this rule! During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, a separately ticketed event, guests of all ages can wear costumes. You can also wear costumes while on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser and during other special events, but will still need to follow some guidelines. To read more about costume-wearing rules in Disney World, you can check out this post.

These costume restrictions led to the birth of a little something called Disneybounding! This is when you create an outfit inspired by a character without totally recreating their costume. Often, people will put a modern spin on the character’s look and pull key colors into their pieces as well as add relevant accessories that call back to their movie. For example, to dress like Ariel you could wear a t-shirt with a purple clamshell design, a green skirt, and accessorize with aLittle Mermaid bag and pearl jewelry! Here you can see our team in their Disneybounds: Fry Bucket is dressed like Belle, Quincy as Anna, Sage as Elsa, and Emma as Rapunzel (with Kermit standing in for Pascal!).

The important thing to remember when trying to craft an outfit inspired by your favorite character is to stick to their color scheme and add accessories that remind you of them. Outside of that, you can totally get creative! It’s so fun to put together different looks, but if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration we’ve put together some outfits below as well as shared some adult princess costumes for your next party!

Disneybound Princess Outfits for Disney World

Anna

Is Anna your favorite character? Just like Quincy did, you can easily create an Anna-inspired outfit by sticking to her three main colors: black, royal blue, and fuchsia. You can mix and match them in any way or stick to a black top and blue skirt like we did here.

Character Inspired: Anna

To mimic her cape we used a fuchsia scarf, but you might want to swap it out for a necklace or belt if you’re planning on wearing this to the parks. Same with the black boots; we added boots here because Anna wears them, but you can opt instead for a pair of comfy black shoes for long park days. We finished the look off with a pair of reindeer earrings (Kristoff would be proud!) and an Anna backpack, so everyone will be certain to know who you are!

Belle

If you loved Fry Bucket’s outfit from Festival of the Arts, you can easily replicate it with the items below. This look is inspired by Belle’s ballroom scene with her beautiful golden gown. Her look in the movie is entirely yellow, but we pulled in some red pieces to represent the enchanted rose. Plus, it helps to break up the look!

Because this was for Festival of the Arts we added a beret which is an example of how you can tailor your outfit for the occasion! For example, if you’re wearing your outfit during cooler weather, you can create a look that emulates what you think that character would wear in the winter. This outfit also shows how important accessories are! Without the bag or necklace, this red and yellow outfit would be pretty plain, but when you add them in it’s clear which character you took your inspiration from.

Ariel

Many Disney princesses have multiple outfits, and several have what we call a “peasant” dress in addition to their fancy ballgown. A black corset-style top like this can be useful to have in your wardrobe if you are planning to dress up as a variety of Disney characters because many different outfits from the films feature a black corset like this.

Character Inspired: Ariel Blue Dress

Here we replicated Ariel’s town outfit she wears when she first starts to spend time on land with Eric. She has on a mostly blue outfit, with the top being a lighter shade than the bottom. This blouse and skirt combo fits perfectly and the sleeves are even the same shape! We found these cute Flounder earrings to wear, plus some pearl and clamshell accessories really bring the outfit together.

Moana

Not every outfit has to be a dress or a skirt — you can still look like your favorite princess with a pair of pants or shorts! Whether you’re not a fan of skirts or looking for something more comfortable, pants and shorts are certainly a practical option, especially for long days at Disney World. Here, we recreated Moana’s iconic look with a simple tank top and pants.

Not only do the colors work well, but the fabrics also remind us of Moana’s outfit. These linen pants give off a tropical vibe and are lightweight for the summer. You can add in other colors with the accessories; we picked a necklace that reminded us of Moana’s, then added Moana ears and a bag. You’re more than welcome to go barefoot like her, but we picked a pair of neutral sandals!

Jasmine

Now that you see you can really get creative with your looks, now you can Disneybound anywhere, even at the gym! This brand carries headbands to keep your hair out of your face while exercising and they come in a bunch of different princess designs. This headband looks like the one Jasmine wears so we built an entire outfit off of it. Sometimes all it takes is one piece to inspire you!

This look is simple but effective! By combining the headband with a two-piece set in Jasmine’s signature color, you can look at this outfit and immediately know which princess it was inspired by. The gold sneakers are the cherry on top. If you really want to go all the way, create a bubble ponytail! They’re similar to Jasmine’s hairstyle and will also keep your hair off your neck while you hit the treadmill.

The bodice has the same design from the movie, and the Nordic patterns continue down the panels in the skirt. When you put this on, remember: you can’t marry a man you just met! The dress and necklace come in a set for $35.99.

Classic Snow White

Go full Disney princess with this Snow White costume. Snow has one of the most instantly recognizable dresses thanks to the primary color scheme she has going on. While other Snow White costumes tend to get the color placement wrong, this one is right on the money with the blue bodice, red sleeves, and yellow skirt.

The Ultimate Guide to Princess Costumes for Disney Adults (13)

It even has the white collar that stands up around the neckline! Another important part that some people forget when dressing up as Snow is her hair ribbon, but don’t worry because this costume comes with the red bow. This costume is $53 on Amazon.

Aurora’s Pink Gown

Aurora’s fairy godmothers may have fought over which color to make her dress, but ultimately we most often see this sleepy princess in the pink version of her final gown. You too can channel her sweet and classical look with this costume from Amazon.

The Ultimate Guide to Princess Costumes for Disney Adults (14)

We love the gold detailing on this costume; it makes it feel much more lifelike! There is gold piping on the bodice and a sheer overlay on the skirt with a golden design. Grab this costume for $74.99.

Moana Costume

Moana’s outfit is much less unwieldy, making it a great choice for warmer weather or those who hate wearing too much fabric. This outfit is a great replica of Moana’s main look! It has all of the patterns we remember from the movie.

The Ultimate Guide to Princess Costumes for Disney Adults (15)

One of the most important things she wears is her necklace that holds the Heart of Te Fiti, and you’ll receive one with this costume set. If you’re going somewhere you can’t be barefoot a pair of nude sandals can do the trick! This costume is for sale on Amazon for $69.29.

Rapunzel’s Dress

Rapunzel’s dress she wears for most of the film is fun and another more comfortable choice because it’s shorter than the standard princess gown. This version also has short sleeves compared to the long sleeves Rapunzel has, so that makes this another good choice for warmer weather.

The Ultimate Guide to Princess Costumes for Disney Adults (16)

Rapunzel’s colors of pink and purple are captured in this dress with an addition of some golden piping (she is royalty after all!) Wearing her hair as long as it is in the film is pretty much impossible, so a braid with some flower clips is a great choice instead. Copy Rapunzel’s look with this costume for $69.93!

Jasmine’s Outfit

Want to be a princess with the comfort of pants? Then Jasmine is your girl! This outfit looks like her original look but has the added benefit of being one piece. If you’re uncomfortable showing off your mid-section it’s totally covered, and because it’s all connected you don’t have to worry about your shirt riding up as you move around.

The Ultimate Guide to Princess Costumes for Disney Adults (17)

This costume also has the off the shoulder look but also has regular straps for security. It even comes with Jasmine’s signature headband! This matching set is available for $41.51.

Tiana’s Ballgown

Tiana definitely has one of the most impressive final gowns out of all of the Disney princesses. And somehow, she managed to make swamp plants look pretty! This multi-layered dress is a beautiful recreation of Tiana’s gown, with each layer cut to mimic leaves and petals.

The Ultimate Guide to Princess Costumes for Disney Adults (18)

They also didn’t forget the flower and its falling tendrils on the side! Your dress will also come with the matching gloves and even her iconic tiara as a headband. This stunning costume is on Amazon for $139.99.
