It is being argued that a week is 7 days, and therefore 6 nights. So does that mean there are only 12 nights in a fortnight, despite there being 14 days? What happens to the other night?
If I book a week's holiday, I expect there to be 7 nights in the resort and to return home on the same day of the week on which I travelled, and I would still call it a week.

holidays are usually judged by how many nights you are away so a weeks holiday would be 7 nights.

If I book a week holiday it's 7 nights, so if I arrive on a Saturday I expect to leave the following Saturday, I've never heard anyone suggest otherwise

I had a few years of this with my ex husband before he started taking the DC away when they were with him. If you have a similar issue, I solved it by insisting on switching weekends around before or after the holiday so he has them from Friday to the Monday after. Soooo much better.

Yeah, a weeks booking is 7 nights. Bookings are usually made by 'nights'.

million is on the right lines - if court ordered contact says a week, wouldn't you expect that to be 7 nights?

In my mind, a week is 7 days, so 7 x 24 hours.

Yep 7 nights, normally closer to 6 days though I've found with regards to package holidays.

Yes, a week would always be 7 nights. Whether it's worth going back to court for is another matter...

You could try it from the angle that a week is seven 24 hour days - 168 hours. Your time ends at the same time it began (if being picky) the same day the following week.
That's what we did, unfortunately it still meant in practical terms I could still only get away for 6 nights.

I had a thread about this a while back. Ex had the DC and thought I would be back a day earlier than I was as his 'week' was one day shorter than mine.

Looks like I'm going against the grain here, but in the context of contact, I'd think that a week is 7 days so could be 6 nights if it was from first thing in the morning on the 1st day (maybe 8-9am so give children chance to get up and breakfasted) till bedtime on the 7th. As mentioned, a package holiday is 7 nights but often only 6 days, I'd rather have the days with children when they're awake and you can do stuff!

It just seems pedantic to hold out for that 'missing' bedtime-8am stretch when the child would mostly be asleep anyway.

If you are having a child for a week and the pick up is say 3pm Sunday then drop off should be 3pm the following Sunday.
What ever parent you are there is a simple solution,if you are the collecting parent then just drop back at the correct time with out entering into any argument. If you are the other parent its worth remembering that it is not unusual for the holiday aspect of a court order to be changed or removed if the other parent returns late without prior agreement or good reason so if they do this is a possible option

I don't know what thread you are reading but there is no confusion on this one.
A week is a week,it is a predetermined time that does not change subject to the individual

Well my ex thinks that a weekend away is any length of time as long as there is a weekend in there somewhere. He asked to take our DS to France 'for the weekend'. I thought that would be lovely, but I was concerned about whether he'd make it to school Monday morning.
Indignant ex replied 'We'll be leaving Thursday and coming back on Wednesday, how can I have him in school for Monday??'
