A stake can't kill klaus unless it laced with marcel venom
Elijah killed Klaus via the White Oak Stake. White Oak Stake kills the originals. That's why Finn, Kol, Mikael, Klaus and Elijah died.

We actually have no idea how Marcel's venom would effect Klaus with him being half werewolf but the white oak stake can kill an original and probably marcel as the spell was bound by white oak. Though it was a very bad continuity mistake with a white oak stake appearing out of thin air.
The white oak stake.That and Marcels venom is the only thing that can kill an original.
