In a surprise move, Disney has shut down its Pixar Canada animation studio in Vancouver, laying off 100 people. The closure is a blow to Vancouver's aspirations to develop its high-tech movie production sector and comes just three years after Disney's much ballyhooed entry into Canada.
Like clockwork, April 2021 signaled the end of the studio. Disney cited the reason for the sudden death as a financial battle that they just could not win while maintaining the three studios during and post-pandemic. In addition, Blue Sky Studios saw their staff of 450 employees out of work.

No, they are not owned by Disney. Pixar is owned by Disney. Dreamworks has many of the same elements as Pixar, and I believe Disney tried to acquire the company but failed in their attempts. Comcast who owns Universal Studios owns Dreamworks.
