Who would win Shanks vs Zoro?
Even though he was young, Shanks traveled with Roger to the end of the Grandline and, to do this, he needed to be strong. He's only grown in strength and used to duel on even ground with Dracule Mihawk. Since then, Shanks lost his arm, but he is still superior to most pirates, including Zoro.
Like many characters on this list, Shanks isn't a traditional swordsman and he doesn't appear to be a proficient with a blade as Mihawk, however, it is believed that he is stronger than the latter. Shanks is presumably far above Zoro's level.
One Piece 1079 Suggests Shanks Is Zoro's Greatest Obstacle
Not only is his Observation Haki superior to anyone in the series, but using Roger's Divine Departure technique sets him completely apart from other swordsmen. He effortlessly dealt with the Kid Pirates and acquired copies of their three Road Poneglyphs.
Shanks is probably way above Zoro`s level. Of all the characters still alive in One Piece, Dracule Mihawk is undoubtedly the strongest swordsman in the world. After all, he holds the title. Vista was the commander of the fifth division of Whitebeard`s Pirates and was considered the best swordsman in Whitebeard`s crew.

Roronoa Zoro is the right hand man of future Pirate King Luffy, Vice Captain of the Straw Hat pirates and the future Worlds Greatest Swordsman. Uzumaki Boruto is a Hidden Leaf shinobi and the son of Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga. Absolutely, without a shroud of doubt. 12 year old Zoro could beat current Boruto.
Shanks is potentially the strongest pirate of his generation and only a few can challenge him in battle, but there are characters who can go toe-to-toe with him and even defeat him. Trafalgar Law, Luffy, Garp, Five Elders, Dracule Mihawk, Sakazuki, Monkey D.
Luffy has not surpassed Shanks just yet, otherwise, their future fight would hold no significant value. Luffy is close to Shanks in terms of power and it is only after their fight that he will officially be able to call himself stronger than Shanks. For now, Red Hair reigns supreme.
Luffy will ever clash with Shanks in one-on-one combat. However, the Straw Hat Pirates' recent activity as an Emperor seems to have motivated Shanks to continue his pursuit of the One Piece, setting them on a collision course that will require Luffy to push himself to his utmost limits.
Although he did fight Kaido and even managed to earn his praise, which is quite impressive, it was pretty clear that Zoro wasn't anywhere close to him in terms of either power or skill. That in itself is a big reason why Zoro would never have killed Kaido. For now, Zoro is levels below his Captain, Monkey D.
Will Zoro surpass Mihawk?
Series creator Eiichiro Oda loves sprinkling these sorts of connections throughout the manga. But in this case, it also all but confirms that Zoro will eventually surpass Mihawk. At the beginning of the story this was far from the case.

But there have been a few instances where he has been bested by them. Zoro's defeats have served as a humbling experience for him and reminded him that there is still a long way to go before he becomes the best swordsman in One Piece.
He can now use an advanced form of Conqueror's Haki to infuse his swords with great power, but even this ability cannot beat Naruto. Sage Mode would make landing a sword strike very difficult, and it is hard to believe that Zoro would be able to cut through Naruto's Tailed Beast Mode.
He has no known devil fruit ability, however, his skill with Haki is top-notch. His actual power level is still unknown, but he was easily able to hold off Kaido and prevented him from reaching Marineford, which speaks volumes about his strength. Shanks is still going to be stronger than Sanji by the end of the series.
According to Brannew, Mihawk's swordsmanship skills are known to exceed even those of red-haired Shanks. Therefore, in terms of swordsmanship alone, Mihawk is certainly better.
Even if he has one arm less, it hasn't hindered his progress at all. Shanks has managed to surpass Mihawk, and he is perfectly capable of beating him.
Luffy's Gear Fifth Is Strong, But It Can't Beat Goku Yet
On the other hand, the name Goku is synonymous with "prodigy." He's a certified martial arts master from an alien planet, which gives him a slew of perks Luffy doesn't have access to. His alien features enhance his combat abilities and increase his durability.
Taking Naruto's different Modes into consideration, he'd be the clear winner during a battle with Luffy. It's likely that Naruto would be stronger and more powerful than anything Luffy has ever had to face in the world of One Piece, with Luffy's current Gear 5 paling in comparison.
That someone is Shanks. You can be sure of that. What is known of Shanks is that he has incredibly powerful king haki.
Can kid defeat Shanks?
However, that all changed after Chapter 1079, which saw Shanks defeat Kid and his crew in a decisive fashion and claim one of the final resources needed to claim the title of Pirate King.
