At its December 5, 2023 business meeting, the Montgomery County Board of Education approved the school year calendar for 2024-2025. With the 2023-2024 school year coming to an end in just a couple weeks, it’s never too early to get a jump on some important dates for the upcoming school years.
The calendar is responsive to community input by offering limited instructional disruptions and highlighting the system’s continued investment in our employees with the professional development learning days. Highlights for the 2024-2025 school calendar include:
- For Traditional Calendar schools: First day of school for students is Monday, August 26, 2024 and the last day of school is Friday, June 13, 2025.
- For Innovative Calendar schools: First day of school for students is Monday, July 8, 2024 and the last day of school is Friday, June 13, 2025.
- District-wide professional days include Friday, October 18, 2024 and Friday, June 6, 2025.
- There will be five scheduled early release days for Traditional Calendar schools. They include: September 27, 2024, November 25-26, 2024 (designated for student conferences), February 28, 2025, and June 13, 2025.
- Winter break begins on Saturday, December 21, 2024 and ends on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
- Spring break begins on Saturday, April 12, 2025, and ends on Monday, April 21, 2025.
The calendar maintains 182 days of instruction, including six built in contingency days within the school year. These dates are in addition to holiday closures required by state law, which are noted on the calendars linked here below (FY2025 Traditional Schools Calendar pictured below):

Well-Paid Maids Celebrates 7 Years of Paying Living Wages
By: Well-Paid Maids
Aaron Seyedian launched the home cleaning company Well-Paid Maids in June 2017 and, that August, began offering cleaning services around the D.C. area with his staff of three -- including himself.
At the time, he paid cleaners a living wage of $16 an hour, plus benefits.
Here's what he told The Washington Post in September 2017: "It's just immoral for people to have to panic every time the rent is due, to wonder how they're going to pay for their groceries, or whether they can buy their kid a pair of shoes."
Today, Well-Paid Maids has grown into a team of around 35 employees. Cleaners now get paid a starting wage of $24 an hour. Plus, they get benefits, like health, vision, dental and life insurance; 24 paid days off per year; 100% employer-paid commuting costs; and more.
Aaron and other Well-Paid Maids team members have also advocated for paid family and medical leave, higher minimum wages, and more.
This summer, help Well-Paid Maids celebrate seven years of creating change in a notoriously dirty industry.
