Sometimes we like to joke that Disney World has 2 seasons: 1st summer, and 2nd summer.

And, while that isn’t exactly true, for a large portion of the year, the weather at Walt Disney World is definitely summer-like. But, there are some months of the year when things do cool off a bit, too.

Here’s what you can expect the weather to be like at Disney World:

Which month has the best weather at Disney World?

Hands down, if looking strictly at the weather and things like average temperatures and rainfall, we think January and February are the best months to visit Walt Disney World.

That’s because in both January and February, the temperatures are cool and the chances of rain are low, which are just about a perfect combination in our books.

Now, to be fair, there are some downsides to traveling in January and February. In particular, there are some big events and holidays during those 2 months that can really cause the crowds to increase in the parks.

But do you know what makes handling the crowds a lot easier to manage?

Cool temps. And beautiful breezes. And blue skies. Ahhhh, sounds like bliss, to us!

Because covering the Disney World parks is our job, we visit the Orlando area monthly, so we know first-hand just what each month brings.

And by far, we find January and February to be our favorite months to head to Walt Disney World.

What is the weather like at Disney World?

Ready to break it all down, month-by-month?

Here’s what you can expect to see, but remember, these are just averages.

There is always the chance that things could be hotter or colder or wetter or drier.

The closer you get to your trip, the more accurate the forecasts will be – so make sure you triple check the predictions right before you leave.

January

  • Average high temperature: 71°F / 22°C
  • Average low temperature: 52°F / 11°C
  • Average rainfall: 2.48″

If you prefer cooler temperatures and low humidity, January is the month for you.

But even though thetemps range from lows in the 50s to highs in the 70s, remember those are just averages.

It isn’t unusual to see those lows dip into the 30s and the highs to climb into the 80s.

Layers are a necessity during this time of the year. Even the characters wear long sleeves and jackets in January.

In addition to cool temps, January also sees some of the least amounts of rain, with an average of fewer than 3 inches per month.

That combination (cool temps, low humidity, and minimal rain) helps make January a pleasant time to visit.

February

  • Average high temperature: 73°F / 23°C
  • Average low temperature: 54°F / 12°C
  • Average rainfall: 2.04″

February is much like January. You’ll find the temps this month range from lows in the 50s to highs in the 70s.

In February, it isn’t unusual to see those lows dip into the 40s and the highs to climb to the near 90s.

While not as necessary as in January,we still recommend you plan on layers for February, especially if you come from a warm climate.

Another perk for February is the fact that February sees, on average, only 2 inches of rain.

Much like January, the combination of cool temps, low humidity, and minimal rain helps make February a pleasant time to visit.

March

  • Average high temperature: 77°F / 25°C
  • Average low temperature: 59°F / 15°C
  • Average rainfall: 3.03″

March brings with it plenty of opportunities for shorts as well as some chances for chilly temps.

You can expect for thetemps to range from lows in the upper 50s to highs in the upper 70s, but remember – those are just averages.

It isn’t unusual to see those lows dip into the upper 40s and the highs to climb to the near 90s.

While not as necessary as in January and February,we still recommend you plan on layers for March, especially if you come from a warm climate.

And, don’t forget about the rain.

March typically sees more rain so come prepared with multiple pairs of shoes, ponchos, and umbrellas just in case.

April

  • Average high temperature: 82°F / 28°C
  • Average low temperature: 63°F / 17°C
  • Average rainfall: 2.58″

By the time April rolls around, most of the chances for super chilly nights have passed.

You can expect for thetemperatures to range from lows in the 60s to highs in the low 80s.

Of course, those are just averages, so there is always the chance to see those highs soar into the 90s (especially the later in the month you travel).

April typically sees more rain so come prepared with ponchos, multiple pairs of shoes, and umbrellas just in case.

May

  • Average high temperature: 87°F / 31°C
  • Average low temperature: 77°F / 25°C
  • Average rainfall: 4.02″

Even though May isn’t even officially “summer” yet, you can expect it to be warm and even downright hot.

During May, thetemperatures will range from lows in the upper 60s to highs in the upper 80s.

And, by the end of the month, expect those highs to creep into the 90s. Eek!

May is also the start of the rainy season. The further into the month you go, the more likely you’ll run into the typical midday showers that central Florida is known for.

There isn’t any way to candy coat the truth, so we’ll just say it: June at Disney World is very hot and very steamy.

During June, thetemperatures will range from lows in the 70s to highs in the 90s.

And with all that heat and humidity comes lots of chances for rain.

In fact, June sees an average of over 8 inches of rain each year. Most of that rain falls during storms that pop up in the afternoon.

July at Disney World is one of the hottest and steamiest months of the year.

During July, thetemperatures will range from lows in the mid 70s to highs in the 90s.

And with all that heat and humidity comes lots and lots of chances for rain.

In fact, July sees an average of over 7 inches of rain each year with most of that rain falling during storms that pop up in the afternoon.

August at Disney World is nothing short of hot. And steamy. And did we mention it was hot?

During August, thetemperatures will range from lows in the mid-70s to highs in the 90s.

And with all that heat and humidity comes lots and lots of chances for rain.

In fact, August sees an average of nearly 8 inches of rain each year, with most of that rain falling during storms that pop up in the afternoon.

September at Disney World remains hot. And steamy. Maybe not quite as hot and steamy as July or August, but it is still really hot.

During September, thetemperatures will range from lows in the mid 70s to highs in the upper 80s.

The rain chances decrease slightly, but September still sees on average over 6 inches of rain per year.

While October at Disney World remains hot, there are some glimpses of cooler temps, especially in the mornings and after the sun goes down.

During October, thetemperatures will range from lows in the upper 60’s to highs in the low 80s.

The rain chances also decrease, with October only seeing around 3 inches of rain per year.

November at Disney World can be anything from hot to absolutely perfect to just a bit cool. That means you’ll definitely want to check the forecast when your trip gets closer, and then consider packing layers.

During November, thetemperatures will range from lows in the 60s to highs in the upper 70s.

The rain chances also decrease, with November only seeing around 2 inches of rain per year.

December

  • Average low temperature: 55°F / 13°C
  • Average rainfall: 2.48″

December at Disney World typically brings slightly cooler temps. But, while some days can be chilly others may still be warmer than you’d expect. Since temps in December at Disney World can get cool in the mornings and evenings, consider dressing in layers so that you’re comfortable throughout the day.

During December, thetemperatures will range from lows in the 50s to highs in the low 70s.

Rain is also less of a problem in December, with the entire month averaging a little less than 2.5 inches.

But even though the rain chances aren’t as high, we still recommend that you come prepared with ponchos, multiple pairs of shoes (in case one pair gets wet), and umbrellas just in case. Nothing can ruin a trip faster than blisters from wet shoes.

Does it ever get cold at Disney World?

If you only visit during the blazing summer you may not believe that there are actually a few days during the year when it can be downright chilly at Disney World!

We promise we aren’t lying. During the winter months, there are always a few days of the year when the temps dip down and people head to the parks in jackets and coats.

But, those days can be hard to predict and even on days when the evening and morning temperatures are chilly you may be just fine during the middle of the day.

Dress in layers

That is why we strongly recommend you wear layers from around December through February.

Trust us on this one: layers are your friend. Things that you can tie around your waist and easily slip off and on are especially handy during the winter months.

Not only can the parks get chilly, but the restaurants and even some attractions may be a bit too cold, too.

Caught off guard? Check the shops.

If you find yourself in the parks without a jacket during a cold snap, you don’t have to freeze.

Disney usually has a decent sized selection of jackets, coats, and even gloves, and hats for guests.

Of course, you’ll be paying theme park prices, BUT you won’t be freezing!

We have more than 1 sweatshirt we’ve purchased after underestimating our ability to handle the nighttime temps. Oops!

How hot is Disney World in the summer?

We really wish there was an easier way to say this, but, Disney World in the summer is just plain ‘ol hot and humid.

The temps really start to inch up in late March-April, but by the time you get to June, July, and August, things are just blazing.

But, just because it is hot doesn’t mean that you can’t have a good time.

Does it rain a lot at Disney World?

Some months of the year, there is a LOT of rain.

In fact, it is quite normal to see nearly daily rain showers in the summer.
