Hi

I want to talk about the time frame of Infinite Warfare (we know IW is in the same timeline as Modern Warfare) and how working with it.

After finishing the campaign, I came back to the wikia and I saw the date 2080 all over the place while I didn't see any mention of this year. When I changed one page and asked for an in-game source, I got no answer and 2080 was here again. So I ask everybody here, where does the date 2080 come from?

Not only the date for the campaign but the date of birth for some characters. I checked the Terminal in the captain's cabin in the Retribution and there's no mention at all, did I miss something? If so, please correct me with something from the game so I can look back at it again.

Because right now, from what I have seen during the campaign, there're only 3 "dates":

  • May 6th for Rising Threat
  • May 7th for the attack of Geneva aka Black Sky (and the characters keep repeating "today" as a reference to Black Sky, looks a bit strange the campaign takes place in a single day)
  • The campaign takes place 31 years after the end of the Secession War between the SetDef and the UNSA (as mentionned in a quote when you die)

So if the date 2080 don't exist in the game, what do we do? How do we add the event of the game in the Modern Warfare timeline?

Edit:

According to Taylor Kurosaki (Narrative Director on Infinite Warfare):

  • The SWC-141 is an easter-egg and not a link between the Infinite Warfare and the Modern Warfare timelines
  • They didn't choose a specific year or century for the campaign, so 2080 and every other dates are false.

So with those informations, we should remove every years in the IW pages and create a timeline for the game.

Edit 2:

Something I didn't notice before, the briefing for Operation Burn Water mentions the date May 8th 3:00 CET (CET is the timezone for Central Europe, including Geneva).

It can't be the hour from Earth during the briefing since it's day when Raines is talking.

Does that mean every missions/operations after Burn Water take place on May 8th Earth time or it's a mistake from the dev team? The news reel about Titan still mentionned "Saturday May 7th".

Do we stick to "the campaign takes place in a single day" or choose to change the date to May 8th after Burn Water?

Edit 3:

Taylor Kurosaki confirmed two things:

  • The campaign doesn't take place during a single day but during 24 hours.
  • Black Sky takes place on May 7th at 5PM CET

Therefore, Rising Threat takes place on May 6th at 11PM CET (according to the "it's been 18 hours" from Black Sky) and Operation Blood Storm on May 8th around 5PM CET (I don't think having a specific hour is really needed). The ending cinematic of the game is still at an unknown date, maybe 9th.

We can now assume that the date May 8th 3AM CET for Operation Burn Water is somehow correct.

I would suggest we take the missions list from the game and put every missions before Burn Water set on May 7th (with the exception of Rising Threat) and every missions after it on May 8th. Something like that.

Discussion[]

If we truly do not know the date, simply having "Unknown Year" or "After 2017" on the timeline page and not listing the year on the character/level/event pages would suffice. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 23:23, November 10, 2016 (UTC)

I was thinking about that, something like:
Unknown years after 2017
Secession War between the Settlement Defense Front and the United Nations Space Alliance
31 years after the Secession War
Infinite Warfare campaign.
But we need to confirm if the year 2080 is true or not.Kalinine (talk) 00:11, November 11, 2016 (UTC)
That world work well. I can't really help with confirming the date as I don't have the game, nor the time (or want) to go out searching for the confirmation of it. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 00:18, November 11, 2016 (UTC)

I would also suggest putting the connection between Infinite Warfare and the Modern Warfare timeline on hold. The numerous technologies that were featured in the former required a lot of extensive testing for them to work. Plt. Pao Ayo (talk) 23:38, November 10, 2016 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure what testing has to do with anything when there's a confirmed link between the two games. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 00:18, November 11, 2016 (UTC)

"looks a bit strange the campaign takes place in a single day" - The campaign does take place over the course of a single day. After every mission the TV always shows it as May 7th, and one of the achievments for completing the game is titled "One hell of a day". It may be due to the player being space so time progresses differently, or simply because you get though all the operations so fast.

True, do you remember any mention of the year 2080? Because I don't. Kalinine (talk) 11:23, November 11, 2016 (UTC)
Sadly no. However, we could potentially rule out 2080 by seeing if there's a Saturday 7th May in that year.

2080 May 7th is a Tuesday. So unless stated in game where we've missed it, then it's not 2080.

As an update I've sent a tweet to two of the IW writers. With any luck they'll be able to let us know the year the game is set.

I hope we will have some clarifications about the time frame because as far as I look back to the campaign there's absolutely no date mentionned or written anywhere haha. Kalinine (talk) 21:37, November 11, 2016 (UTC)

According to Taylor the TF141 is just intended as an Easter Egg. So we can rule it out of the NE timeline.

Right, I'll update my post Kalinine (talk) 17:41, November 12, 2016 (UTC)

In regards to Kalinine's newest update, I have no issue with what he's proposing. Granted I haven't played the game nor seen any Let's Plays, so I'm not overly familiar with the campaign at all. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 00:58, February 17, 2017 (UTC)
