Autumn in Israel - Now Featuring
With a little bit of a chill coming in, we are excited for the warm concoctions that autumn brings. We switch from cooling off with cold and creamy gelato to warming up with some butternut squash soup or even hawaij hot chocolate. And the best part about this season -- the Jewish holidays!
On Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, apples and honey are traditionally eaten with the hopes of a sweet new year. Pomegranates are also commonly eaten as they are thought to bring good luck and hold a special role in Judaism. We also have the Yom Kippur holiday, which is notable for being a fast day, but also always means a good meal is waiting for you after!
A special one for foodies, the Sukkot holiday celebrates harvest. On Sukkot food inspiration comes from fruits and vegetables from the latest harvest. Depending on where you are celebrating, it varies!In Israel, we celebrate local produce, where it is on beautiful display in the Carmel and Machane Yehuda (and of course other local) Markets.
