Manage your family on Google - Android (2024)

As the family manager, you can invite up to 5 people to join your family group. You can also remove people from your family group, or delete the family group.

Add family members

You can add family members who:

  • Live in the same country as you.
  • Are at least 13 years old (or the applicable age in your country). Kids under 13 can only be added if the family manager created their gmail account.

Tip: When someone joins your family group, you'll get an email notification.

Play Store app

  1. Open the Google Play app Manage your family on Google - Android (1).
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Settings Manage your family on Google - Android (2) Family Manage your family on Google - Android (3) Manage family members.
  4. Tap Invite family members Manage your family on Google - Android (4) Send.

Family Link app

Important: Family Link availability may be limited in some countries. Download the Family Link app.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Family Link Manage your family on Google - Android (5).
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Manage your family on Google - Android (6) Manage your family on Google - Android (7) Manage family Manage your family on Google - Android (8) Send invitations.

Google One app

Anyone in a family group can purchase a Google One membership and share it with their whole family, up to 6 members total,at no extra cost.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google One app Manage your family on Google - Android (9).
  2. At the top, tap MenuManage your family on Google - Android (10)Settings.
  3. Tap Manage family settings.
  4. Turn on Share Google One with your family. To confirm, on the next screen, tap Share.
  5. Tap Manage family group Manage your family on Google - Android (11) Invite family members.
  6. Follow the instructions to finish setup.

Google Assistant app

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings" or go to Assistant settings.
  2. Tap You Manage your family on Google - Android (12)Your people Manage your family on Google - Android (13)Add person.
  3. Choose the contact you want to add.
  4. Turn on Family group.
  5. Confirm their email address and tap Use this email Manage your family on Google - Android (14)Save.

Remove someone from your family group

If you're the family manager, you can remove people from your family group in several ways.

What happens when you remove someone from your family group

  • The person you remove from your family group:
    • Keeps their Google Account and any content on their device purchased with the family payment method.
    • Can't make new purchases with the family payment method, or access any services your family group shares.
    • Gets an email alert when they're removed.
    • Loses access to anything in your Family Library.
    • Loses access to your shared storage if your family shares a Google One membership.
      • If they’re out of storage, their files stay safe but they can’t store new things. Learn what happens when they run out of space.
    • Loses access to extra member benefits and Google experts.
  • If the person you remove:
    • Made a purchase with the family payment method and it’s already in process: You'll still be charged, but you can request a refund for unwanted or accidental purchases.
    • Added content to the Family Library: If you set up Google Play Family Library, any content they added is removed and other family members lose access to that content.
    • Is 13 (or the applicable age in your country) or older, and you and your child choose to manage their account with Family Link: Their Google Account and any devices are no longer supervised when you remove them from the family group.

Remove a supervised child from your family group

To remove a supervised child from the family group:

  • You must delete their Google Account if they are under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and you created the Google Account for them.
  • You must remove their account if you created their Google Account when they were under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and you have provided consent for their continued use of their Google Account.

Mobile or web browser

Remove a supervised child

  1. Go to g.co/YourFamily.
  2. Select the child you want to remove.
  3. Select Account info Manage your family on Google - Android (15)Remove member.
    • You may need to enter your password.
  4. Select Remove.

Remove other family members

  1. Go to g.co/YourFamily.
  2. Select the family member you want to remove.
  3. Select Remove member Manage your family on Google - Android (16)Remove.

Play Store app

  1. Open the Google Play app Manage your family on Google - Android (17).
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Settings Manage your family on Google - Android (18) FamilyManage your family on Google - Android (19) Manage family members.
  4. Tap your family member's name.
  5. At the top right, tap More Manage your family on Google - Android (20) Manage your family on Google - Android (21) Remove member Manage your family on Google - Android (22) Remove.

Family Link app

Important: Family Link availability may be limited in some countries. Download the Family Link app.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Family Link app Manage your family on Google - Android (23).
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Manage your family on Google - Android (24) Manage your family on Google - Android (25) Manage family.
  3. Tap the family member you want to remove Manage your family on Google - Android (26) Remove member.

Google One app

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google OneManage your family on Google - Android (27).
  2. At the top, tap MenuManage your family on Google - Android (28)Settings.
  3. Tap Manage family Manage your family on Google - Android (29)Manage family group.
  4. Tap the family member you want to remove Manage your family on Google - Android (30)Remove member.

Google Assistant app

  3. Tap the family member you want to remove.
  4. Turn off Family group.
  5. At the bottom right, tap Save.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Delete your family group

If you're the family manager, you can delete your family group in several ways.

What happens when you delete your family group

Important: Once you delete a family group, you can't restore it.

  • Everyone from your family group keeps their Google Accounts and any content on their device they purchased with the family payment method.
  • If your family members made a purchase with the family payment method and it's already in process, you'll still be charged, but you can request a refund for unwanted or accidental purchases.
  • If you set up Google Play Family Library, everyone from your family group loses access to the Family Library content that other family members added.
  • If you subscribed to a family plan like YouTube Music or Google One, your family loses access to that service.
  • If your family shares a Google One membership, your family loses access to the shared storage.
    • If your family members run out of storage, their files stay safe but they can't store new things. Learn what happens when they run out of space.
    • Everyone from your family loses access to extra member benefits and Google experts.
  • If a family member is 13 (or the applicable age in your country) or older, and you choose to manage their account with Family Link, their Google Account and any devices are no longer supervised when you remove them from the family group.
  • If you delete your family group, you can only create or join another family group once in the next 12 months.

Delete your family group that includes a supervised child

Before you can delete a family group that includes a supervised child, you need to delete their Google Account if they are under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and you created the Google Account for them.

Mobile or web browser

  1. Go to g.co/YourFamily.

  1. Open the Google Play app Manage your family on Google - Android (34).
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Family Link app Manage your family on Google - Android (40).
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Manage your family on Google - Android (41) Manage your family on Google - Android (42) Manage family.
  3. In "Delete family group," select Delete family group.
  4. Enter your password.
  5. Tap Delete.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google OneManage your family on Google - Android (43).
