What happens to Family Link when child turns 18? ›

By default, Family Link makes it possible for the child to “graduate” to a regular Google account at age 13 and — if they're still on Family Link — fully transitions them into an adult account at age 18.

On the day they turn 13, children can choose whether they want to manage their own Google Account or continue to have their parent manage it for them. As a parent, you can also choose to remove supervision at any time when the child is over the age of 13.

Your family members can find content added to your Family Library. Family members share the storage space that comes with your Google One plan. But your family group can't see what you store unless you specifically share it with them from Google Drive, Gmail, or Google Photos.

Deleted activity history is unrecoverable. However, your Google Family Link Group Manager can install extensions that you can't remove that will prevent you deleting your history. And therefore they will then be able to see your history, if they are at all interested.

Family Link age limit

Family Link works with Google accounts created for kids under 13 years old. Once they clock 13 years, they can switch to a normal Google account and still continue to use the app.

When children whose accounts are managed with Family Link turn 13 (or the applicable age in their country), they can decide to: Manage their own Google Account. Set up parental supervision for children over 13 (or the applicable age in their country)

If your kid is under 13, you can download Google's Family Link to track and control online activity, including text messaging and social media, using your own phone.

Mail delegation: Children can't give someone else access to read, send, or delete their emails.

Can Google family Manager see photos? ›

Storage. When the Google One plan manager shares their storage with their family group, everyone in your family can see how much storage other people are using. You can't see their files and photos (and they can't see yours) unless you choose to share those files with them.

In most cases, parents can see deleted history on wifi. Here's how it works. After your child has deleted their internet history, it still remains on the router until it's cleared. So if you're worried about what your kids are looking at online; you can easily check the router's history to see for yourself.

Generally, your family and friends cannot see your individual Google search history unless you've explicitly shared your search history with them or are using a shared device with your Google account signed in.

You'll be able to adjust your settings, turn off screen time, etc. once you turn 18. For example, for screen time you can select change/turn off screen time, and then forgot password. Enter your Apple ID and password to gain access.

Google Family Link only works with Google accounts for children under 13 created via the Family Link app. Once a child turns 13, they can continue to use Family Link if they choose to do so.

Parental controls on an Android phone or tablet limit what sort of apps and movies a user can download, and require parents to approve any in-app purchases. If you use the Google Family Link app to set parental controls, you can't turn off parental controls until the child is 13 years old.
