Original Warzone map, Caldera, returns but with some major changes (2024)

Players can now return to Caldera in the relaunched of the legacy map in Warzone 2.0.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 has been a resounding success. Despite the many glitches and players who were not so keen to adjust to the new play style of the sequel, Warzone 2.0 reached a peak of over 25 million players in just a couple of weeks since it was launched.

Its predecessor, Call of Duty: Warzone, crashed the battle royale scene back in 2020. Many gamers felt that the battle royale genre was already saturated, making it hard for a new title such as Warzone to succeed.

The combination of real-world locations and a massive 150-player arena mixed in with Call of Duty’s refined gunplay was a recipe for success. Warzone has been the go-to game for a lot of gamers in the battle royale scene.

Warzone originally launched with the Verdansk map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Caldera was added to the game as a part of Call of Duty: Vanguard. The World War II-themed had a rocky start, receiving mixed reactions from fans of the popular shooter game.

Players eventually warmed up to the tropical island battlefield and it became the primary map of Warzone. Then, when Warzone 2.0 arrived, Caldera was replaced by a new map called Al Mazrah which is the main map of the sequel.

Infinity Ward has now heard the appeal of long-time Call of Duty fans to bring back the old map. Caldera is once again open for players itching to return to its dense tropical jungles. This new game mode in Warzone 2.0 will be called Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera.

However, it may not be the Caldera that fans know from Warzone 1. There are some significant changes to the tropical battlefield.

The first thing that players will notice is the removal of both Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep from this legacy map. Players who prefer smaller-scale battles will be disappointed that these areas are inaccessible in Warzone Caldera.

Gamers who are hoping to transfer their progress from the original game to Warzone 2.0 can only do so in Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera. Any progress made in the original game will not be carried over to the sequel which may be disappointing for long-time fans. This means all items unlocked via the Battle Pass and purchased through the in-game store can only be used in the legacy server.

However, players can transfer COD points to Warzone 2.0. They can then be used to buy new gear or the new Battle Pass for Warzone 2.0 and DMZ. There will be no in-game store for Warzone Caldera.

Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera is free-to-play as a part of Warzone 2.0 and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
