inspect a semiprivate room in Cottage 5 Shaker employes reject offer vote to continue strike Shaker Heights workers voted 53 to 9 yesterday to continue their four day old strike against the city The employes members of the Munici pal oremen and Laborers Local 1099 re jected a proposal worked out between their leaders and city officials during a seven hour bargaining session Tuesday night They were offered a three year con tract with wage hikes of 35 cents an hour the first year' 30 cents next year and 25 cents the final year These figures repre sent a compromise between the original demand for wage boosts totaling $150 over three years and the origi nal of a 70 cent increase over three years Local president Paul Wells termed the wage issue whole He noted that members balked at the offer newly appointed veterans adviser for the 1120 full and part time students who are veterans Canfil 24 a veteran of four years in the Marine Corps attended CCC and Bald win Wallace College and was graduated with a degree in political science In his new job he acts with the Veter ans Administration to help solve problems of the veterans He is employed by the college On the job only a month now Canfil said of my time is taken up with answering questions about delayed checks and questions about the Ohio Vietnam vet erans bonus As far as I know now the bonus checks should be in the mail by late Canfil who never seems to stand still plans to enroll in law school this fall and get involved in politics on a local level He said he has had very good relations with the Veterans Administration
