What to Wear to Disney World in August (Survive & Thrive In Florida's Summer Heat) (1)Weather Conditions in August at Disney World

Are you planning a trip to Disney World in August? It’s important to know what to expect when it comes to weather conditions. Central Florida can be quite an adventure during the summer months.

Here’s the truth about the weather in August at Disney World:

It’s hot (brutally hot), humid, and rainy.

But don’t let that discourage you!

With the right clothing and preparation, you can still have an amazing time.

High Temperatures in Central Florida

August is one of the hottest months in Central Florida, with average high temperatures in the 90s F (32+ C).

Think about it: that’s pretty hot!

You’ll want to wear light, breathable clothing that will keep you cool throughout the day.

Shorts and T-shirts are a must, and you really should also plan on bringing a hat or visor to protect your face from the sun. I’ve got a wide brim boonie-style hat that covers my neck and ears that i wear when we go to the parks – the sun can be absolutely brutal and getting burned is way too easy.

Humidity and Rainy Days

You ever heard the saying, “it’s not the heat that gets you – it’s the humidity”? It was almost certainly coined by someone who spent the summertime outdoors in Central Florida!

In addition to the high temperatures, August is also one of the most humid and rainy months in Florida.

The humidity can make it feel even hotter than it actually is, so be prepared to sweat!

Pop-up rain storms can be annoying, but they usually don’t last very long. In other words, don’t let a little rain ruin your day!

It’s an absolute must to bring a poncho or umbrella just in case, and wear shoes that are comfortable and water-resistant.

If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, August may be the best time to visit Disney World.

The crowds are a little lower in August, which can help with some of the congestion.

Plus, the parks let you take advantage of the lingering sunshine with extended hours.

Just keep in mind that August is also hurricane season in Florida (and there always seems to be one brewing up during August in recent years!), so it’s important to keep an eye on the weather forecast and be prepared to adjust your plans if necessary.

August at Disney World can be hot, humid, and rainy, but it’s still a great time to visit if you come prepared.

Wear light, breathable clothing, bring rain gear, and be ready for the heat and humidity.

Let’s face it, with the right attitude and preparation, you can have an amazing trip to Disney World in August!

Clothing for Water Activities in August at Disney World

Let’s face it, August in Florida is hot and humid.

Luckily, Disney World has some amazing water parks to help you cool off.

But what do you wear to these water activities? Here’s the truth about dressing for water activities in August at Disney World.

Water Parks: Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach

First things first, let’s talk about the water parks. Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach are the perfect places to beat the heat. But what should you wear to these parks?

What to Wear to the Water Parks

When it comes to water parks, comfort is key. You’ll want to wear a bathing suit and bring a change of clothes for after you’re done with the water rides.

A waterproof bag is a great investment to keep your belongings dry. Don’t forget to bring water bottles to stay hydrated in the heat.

For your feet, opt for comfortable and waterproof sandals or water shoes. Goggles are a great idea for water rides, so make sure to pack them as well.

Hotel Pool: Take a Break from the Heat

If you’re looking for a break from the water parks, your hotel pool is a great option.

All on-property Disney hotels provide pool towels, so you don’t have to worry about packing them.

Pack a swim cover-up for when you’re out of the pool and need to grab a bite to eat.

Pro tip: Bring a waterproof bag to keep your phone and other electronics safe while lounging by the pool.

In other words, when it comes to water activities at Disney World in August, comfort and practicality are key.

Bring a change of clothes, water bottles, and a waterproof bag, and don’t forget your goggles.

With these essentials, you’ll be able to enjoy the water parks and hotel pool without worrying about the heat.

When it comes to dressing for Disney World, August presents a unique challenge.

With high temperatures and frequent rain showers, it’s important to choose clothing that is both comfortable and practical. Here are some tips to help you stay cool and dry during your visit to the Disney parks.

Comfortable Clothes for the Heat

August in Florida can be sweltering, so it’s important to choose clothing that is lightweight and breathable.

Opt for loose-fitting tops made from moisture-wicking fabrics like poly-spandex fabric.

One thing I’ve made a rule for is avoiding cotton at virtually all costs.

There are great substitute fabrics and you really need to look no further than athletic or athleisure wear.

I always pack several Nike Dry-Fit shirts and shorts. But it doesn’t have to be just Nike if that’s not your thing. Fabletics also makes some great stuff that’s light and great for outdoors.

Columbia is another brand that’s widely known for their outdoors & fishing wear.

For bottoms, shorts are a must. Look for styles made from quick-drying materials that won’t cling to your skin when you sweat.

If you prefer long pants, choose lightweight options like spandex or rayon. Leggings and jeans can be too hot and uncomfortable in the Florida heat.

Here’s an unfortunate truth about the Florida heat:

You’re going to sweat.

For some of us, quite a bit.

Sweat, heat and cotton all combine to create a toxic mixture for chafing and irritation, and I can guarantee you, you do not want that (if you plan on enjoying your trip, that is).

So even though that outfit might look cute on you, if it’s made of cotton and it’s not uber-flexible, breathable and will move with you, leave it at home, or save it for your dinner reservation where you’re not going to be spending long hours wearing it.

Layering for Indoor Attractions and Cooler Temperatures

While it may be hot outside, indoor attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion can be chilly.

Layering is key to staying comfortable throughout the day.

Pack a light jacket or long-sleeved shirt to wear when you’re indoors or if the temperature drops in the evening.

Several of the athleisure and athletic wear companies I mentioned before make great long-sleeve shirts (I own numerous different long-sleeve Fabletics shirts) that are comfortable both inside and outside.

What to Wear to Disney World in August (Survive & Thrive In Florida's Summer Heat) (4)Footwear: Comfortable Walking Shoes and Flip Flops

When it comes to footwear, comfort is key.

You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so choose shoes that are supportive and breathable.

Sneakers or comfortable walking shoes are a great option, but if you prefer sandals, opt for styles with straps that will keep your feet secure.

Flip flops are a popular choice, but be aware that they may not be the best option for long days in the park.

I personally always opt to wear my running shoes.

I love to run and I’ve found that my Hoka running shoes are a fantastic option for long days strolling through the parks (with a good pair of moisture wicking ankle socks).

Rainy Day Gear: Poncho or Small Umbrella

I’ve been to the parks too many times to mention when it’s raining and if you’re not prepared, it can be downright miserable – there’s no easy way to get around without getting absolutely soaked (I’ve learned that lesson from personal experience the hard way).

Florida is known for its frequent rain showers, especially during the summer months.

Be prepared by packing a poncho or an umbrella. Ponchos are a great option because they can be worn over your clothes and can also keep you (somewhat) dry on water rides like Splash Mountain.

Dressing for Disney World in August requires a balance of comfort and practicality. With these tips in mind, you’ll be able to enjoy your visit to the Disney parks without worrying about the weather.

Special Events and Dress Code for August at Disney World

Disney World is known for its special events that take place throughout the year.

August is no exception, with two of the most popular events happening during this month: the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Whether you’re attending one of these events or just spending a day at the parks, it’s important to know the dress code and how to dress comfortably.

Epcot International Food and Wine Festival

The EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival is a popular event that takes place every year from late August to mid-November.

During this event, guests can sample food and drinks from around the world, attend cooking demonstrations, and enjoy live music.

If you’re attending the festival, it’s important to dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. August in Florida can be hot and humid, so be sure to wear lightweight, breathable clothing.

While there is no official dress code for the festival, it’s recommended that guests dress in casual attire.

This includes shorts, t-shirts, and comfortable shoes. You may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater, as the temperature can drop at night.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is another popular event that takes place at Disney World in August.

During this event, guests can enjoy trick-or-treating, a special parade, and fireworks. If you’re attending the party, it’s important to dress in costume or in festive attire.

However, there are some guidelines that you should follow when it comes to dressing up.

Disney World has a strict dress code policy, and costumes that are too revealing, offensive, or violent are not allowed. You also cannot wear masks that cover your entire face or simulated weapons of any kind.

Dress Code and Comfortable Dressing

Whether you’re attending a special event or just spending a day at the parks, it’s important to dress comfortably and appropriately.

The dress code at Disney World is casual, but there are some guidelines that you should follow.

For example, shirts and shoes are required at all times, and clothing with offensive language or graphics is not allowed.

When it comes to dressing comfortably, it’s important to wear lightweight, breathable clothing that will keep you cool in the Florida heat.

This includes shorts, t-shirts, and comfortable shoes. You may also want to bring a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.

Overall, the key to dressing for Disney World in August is to be comfortable and appropriate.

Whether you’re attending a special event or just spending a day at the parks, make sure you dress in a way that allows you to enjoy your time without any discomfort or distractions.

One thing to keep in mind:

It does NOT get cooler in the evenings in Florida once the sun goes down. The sweltering heat you experience during the day is only abated by the absence of the sun during the evening.

The air will still be thick and warm. So if you’re thinking it’s a good idea to wear those jeans to your dining reservation in Epcot, you should probably think again.

While some restaurants do have a dress code (places like the California Grill and Victoria and Albert’s) most are pretty casual so what you wore to the park would be suitable to wear to the restaurant.

Just make sure to check with the concierge at your hotel or click here to see our list of Disney World restaurants that have a dress code.

What to Wear to Disney World in August (Survive & Thrive In Florida's Summer Heat) (5)Packing List for August at Disney World

Planning your Disney World vacation in August can be overwhelming, but with the right packing list, you can have a fantastic time without worrying about what to wear or bring to the parks.

In this section, we’ll cover the most important things you need to pack for your Disney trip in August.

Park Bag Essentials

When visiting Disney World in August, it’s important to have a well-stocked park bag.

You’ll want to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a refillable water bottle. It’s also a good idea to pack portable phone chargers and a small first aid kit with band-aids, pain relievers, and any necessary medications.

Here’s the truth about park bags:

They can get heavy and cumbersome, so you want to pack only what you need.

Think about it:

You’ll be walking around the parks for hours, so you don’t want to carry unnecessary items.

One thing I like to do is throw a Nike Dry-Fit t-shirt in my backpack if I feel like I need a fresh shirt during the day. They’re super light and it’s super convenient to freshen up if you’ve been in the park for hours and want to change.

So pack smart and pack light and only bring what you’ll use.

Water Items

Did I mention that it gets hot and humid in August in Orlando?

You’ll want to bring water items to stay cool and hydrated.

Bring a swimsuit and a towel if you plan to enjoy the hotel pool.

One great item you’ll want to include is a cooling towel, which you can wet and wear around your neck to help keep cool.

Don’t forget to bring a water-resistant phone case, so you don’t have to worry about water damage if you plan on riding on the water rides or you’re visiting either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach.

Let’s face it:

Walking around Disney World in the heat can be exhausting, so you want to have water items to stay cool and refreshed.

Pack what you need to stay comfortable and enjoy your Disney vacation.

Clothes and Shoes

So what do you throw into the suitcase?

When it comes to clothes and shoes, August at Disney World calls for lightweight, breathable fabrics and comfortable footwear.

Pack T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, and skirts or skorts. You may also want to bring a long-sleeve shirt and pants for indoor attractions.

For footwear, pack walking shoes or sneakers with good support. You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so you want to make sure your feet are comfortable.

I always bring a pair of sandals or flip flops too. They’re great for walking around the hotel or for a trip to the pool.

If you’re going to the water parks reef shoes (also called water shoes or “wetshoes”) are a great idea.

When it comes to the water rides, it can be a tough decision, but you don’t want to be walking around with wet feet all day after riding Kali River Rapids. Being able to swap out to a pair of flip flops for that ride isn’t a bad idea and you can carry lightweight flip flops in your park bag.

Here’s the last thing you want to do:

wear uncomfortable clothes or shoes at Disney World.

It’s a recipe for a miserable day. I’ve been there and done that. It seems like no amount of Advil will assuage the pain. It’s just not worth it.

Pack clothes and shoes that are comfortable, breathable, and appropriate for the weather.

These are just suggestions based on personal experiences. You know what’s best for you and your family, so pack accordingly and have a fantastic time!
