Which LEGO Creator Expert modular building is set to retire next? (2024)

The next LEGO Creator Expert modular building to retire won’t be the oldest one currently on shelves, but a far more recent release.

According toBrick Fanatics’ sources, 2017’s 10255 Assembly Square – currently the oldest still-available set in the Modular Buildings Collection, outlasting 2018’s 10260 Downtown Diner – will remain on sale until at least the end of 2022.

Retiring before then, however, is 10264 Corner Garage. The 2019 instalment in the long-running buildable street will apparently be shown the door by the end of 2021, so if you still need to add the 2,569-piece slab of dark orange architecture to your street, don’t hang around.

These days, few LEGO sets are guaranteed to rise in value post-retirement, but the Modular Buildings Collection is the rare exception to that rule. The divisive 10260 Downtown Diner departed shelves in November 2020, and is already averaging around £175 on BrickLink. That’s a hefty £45 bump over its retail price.

The next-oldest retired modular building, 2016’s 10251 Brick Bank, currently averages £325 new on the secondary marketplace. That’s pretty remarkable for a set that originally retailed for £129.99, and only retired in November 2018.

Even if you have no interest in investing in LEGO, those prices indicate that waiting to buy 10264 Corner Garage is a risky game to play: hold off for too long, and you could end up paying through the nose for it on the aftermarket.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
