Rebirth Island & Fortune’s Keep will be removed after Warzone 2 release - Charlie INTEL (2024)

Warzone 2 arrives on November 16 with the new Al Mazrah map, and Activision have confirmed that both Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep will be removed from Warzone 1, leaving only Caldera.

After almost three years of Warzone, Modern Warfare 2 brings a new iteration of Call of Duty’s battle royale — Warzone 2.0. The new Warzone and its massive Al Mazrah map will be the focus going forward, and the original is being left for those who would rather play Caldera.

You read that right, it’s only Caldera that players back on the original Warzone will be playing, as Activision have confirmed that the Resurgence maps, Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep, will be removed from ‘Warzone Caldera’ with Modern Warfare 2’s Season 1 update on November 16.

Rebirth Island and the newer Fortune’s Keep became fan-favorite maps ever since their arrival, with their respawn-enabled Resurgence modes deviating from traditional battle royale, bringing a more fast-paced and action-packed experience.

While revealing everything that’s changed since content creators played an early Warzone 2.0 build at Call of Duty Next, the devs also outlined the future of Warzone 1 which will soon be called ‘Warzone Caldera.’

Based on the CoD Blog's wording, Warzone 1 goes down at 8am PT on November 16th

It then returns November 28th at 10am PT as Warzone Caldera with no Rebirth or Fortune's Keep

It will be called Warzone Caldera because the fan-favorite Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep maps have been removed from the game.

After disappearing on November 16 the original Warzone will only return with Caldera on November 28. “Following the relaunch, you will have two differentWarzonegames you can play:Warzone2.0 andWarzone Caldera.”

As you may have already guessed, only Warzone 2 progression will be linked to Modern Warfare 2 moving forward.

The blog detailing the transition from Warzone to Warzone 2 also explains that any 2XP Tokens will not be transferable between the games.

Whether Warzone 2.0 will receive its very own Resurgence map for those that like the faster-paced gameplay with respawning enabled, remains to be seen, but the devs did hint that fans of the small maps should expect exciting developments related to Warzone 2 in future seasons.

If you’re interested in the future of small Warzone maps, the same leaker that initially reported that Rebirth and Fortune’s Keep will be removed said that Warzone 2 will receive its own in a 2023 update.
