Visiting Walt Disney World in June 2024 - Magic in the Planning (2024)

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World in June, there are a few important things you should know. First of all, expect hot weather, although it’s not as intense as July or August. June also marks the start of Orlando’s rainy season, so you may experience brief afternoon downpours. However, the month of June has its advantages too. You’ll likely encounter fewer ride closures and refurbishments, and the water parks have extended operating hours. Additionally, visiting in June means your kids won’t have to miss school. With careful planning and a good strategy, a trip to Disney World in June can be a fantastic choice for your family.

June At-a-Glance

  • Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen! Temperatures in June are definitely heating up! The summer sun in Florida can also be a bit intense. And while Disney offers many ways to cool off, you will definitely want to be prepared with sunscreen.
  • Mornings are a great time to visit the pools. Due to the hotter temperatures, the pools can get quite busy during the heat of the day as well as in the evenings when guests return from a day in the parks. Consider visiting in the mornings when they will be less busy.
  • Major refurbishments are not typically common in June. Disney tends to schedule their refurbishments during less busy months (such as January or February), but that doesn’t mean closures can’t or won’t happen in June.

June Events

Perhaps the most notable event is the . This popular event took place from March 1 through July 5 in 2023, and the dates for 2024 will likely be similar. It features beautifully designed interactive gardens as well as a variety of living sculptures shaped like your favorite Disney characters. You will also find plenty of unique food options and family-friendly exhibits. Epcot festivals tend to bring more local crowds on evenings and weekends, so plan on visiting Epcot during the week if crowds are a concern.

The Garden Rocks Concert Series will likely be back as well in 2024. Dates and artists will be announced at a later date!

ESPN Wide World of Sports typically hosts several athletic events each month. These events don’t usually have a major impact on crowds in the parks, but they can affect resort availability and crowds at Disney’s value resorts. There are currently no events scheduled for the month of June, but this could change as some event dates have yet to be announced.

With no major holidays in the month of June, one might think that the parks are less crowded, but this is simply not the case. Most schools are finishing up during the month of June, which makes it a peak time for Disney World vacations, especially near the end of the month. Father’s Day falls on June 16, 2024, but this shouldn’t affect crowds too much. Just be sure to make any special dinner reservations early.

June Refurbishments & Closures

  • Primeval Whirl is permanently closed
    • It is anticipated that Dino-Rama, as a whole, will likely close at some point to make way for a major expansion. Disney has shared plans for potential replacements, such as a Moana Mini-Land, which includes detailed concept art. Additionally, there is the possibility of a Zootopia Expansion beyond Dino-Rama. Although these proposals are promising, it should be noted that they have not yet been approved or funded by Disney. Therefore, the fate of Dino-Rama remains uncertain, but it is evident that its days are limited.

Other

  • Blizzard Beach closed on March 19, 2023, for refurbishment, and it will reopen on November 6, 2023.
  • Typhoon Lagoon will close on November 6, 2023, for winter refurbishment. No opening date has been announced.
  • Disney Skyliner Gondolas will experience closures in mid-to-late January 2024. This will be a phased closure that will occur first with the Disney’s Hollywood Studios side of the routes, followed by the Epcot side.

June Weather

Overall, the weather in Orlando is quite hot in June. The average high is 90 degrees and the low is typically around 71 degrees. It is also the start of Orlando’s rainy season. That being said, most rain in June will come in short “spurts” rather than be an all-day thing. Brief afternoon downpours are very typical, so packing ponchos would be smart. The good news is that rain is better than hurricanes, which can happen later in the year during hurricane season.

June Disney World Crowd Calendar

Visiting Walt Disney World in June 2024 - Magic in the Planning (1)Crowd calendars are very popular, but they can also be a bit unpredictable. It’s best not to completely rely on them when making your Disney World vacation plans.

While crowd calendars can be a big help in knowing what to expect, keep in mind, they are predictions at best. When designing our calendars, we take a look at events, school calendars, ticket prices, park hours, holidays, and typical monthly patterns. But unfortunately, our crowd calendars cannot predict other things such as weather, travel advisories, pandemics, or last-minute openings or closings of shows and attractions.

On top of that, many are choosing to travel differently these days. Quiet months have become popular due to runDisney events as well as other Disney events and promotions, while busier seasons have seen a downward trend in the last couple of years.

Most of June will be busy, and the crowds only increase as the month goes on and schools release their students for summer break. Of the summer months, June is slightly less hot, but it is also a little more crowded because of it. If planning to travel during the summer to Walt Disney World, it may come down to heat versus crowds. If the crowds don’t bother you, June can be a great time to visit Disney.
